Saw King Arthur (Directors Cut) at the weekend. I actually found it offensive that someone would expect me to sit through such rubbish...which I did

Good points about this movie...the battle on the ice was good and one of the horses put in a pretty good acting performance but that was about it.

    Conor :thumbsdow

My vote still has to go to Arthurs horse, I mean, that he kept a straight face with some of the lines his mount uttered must put him in line for at least an academy award nomination

To be fair Thunderbirds is a kids movie and as such I thought it was good, my five-year-old loved it. Speaking as an adult (don't get to do that very often) it was very disappointing. A really good kids movie should appeal to adults too...Shrek, Nemo etc

I picked up a copy of the Directors cut this morning. At least you get the drivelling dailogue in DTS (for those with a DTS bent).

At least this version has the virtue of being more violent.

i saw it last night too, must admit i liked brutality of the fight scenes, the ice scene was cool (excuse the pun) and of course keira knightley is pleasing to the eye, but Arthur (or arturis), Merlin, and Cerdic, the leader of the saxons had about as much expression as the thunderbird puppets. I thought Ray Winstone was good in it at least, but his character would have fitted better in another west-end gangster movie.

For me, the main problem was that Clive Owen simply cannot deliver a line like other great actors. He has no charisma whatsoever and if he were to lead me into battle I think I would have turned around and walked home..... :)

    Other than that ok.

    Cap :)

keira knightley sounded like she had just stepped out of a Merchant Irovy film - why cant the yanks leave our history alone!!!

still i have to say that i'm looking forward to Ridley Scotts "Crusades" next year - that should be top!!!

I haven't seen King Arthur in any form but surely the director's cut must be vastly superior seeing as it's gone from being a cut down Kiddy movie(12a) to a brutal adult film(18)?

Well if it is better, then the cut version must be brutal beyond my abilities to imagine

Personally I liked the the movie, but at the time of it's release the director wasn't happy about the number of cuts he had to make to reduce the rating from an 18 to a 12, hence the directors cut dvd. Some of the battle scenes in the movie do seem rushed.

The Mrs brought it for me yesterday for xmas so haven't seen it yet to comment on whether it is better or not.

why did I just buy King Arthur ?

I knew it would be crap, every cinema review said it was.....Ray 'shouty man' Winstone is the most overrated Brit actor of the current crop.....Keira is an anorexic clothes horse .....and I still was curious enough to pick it up.

Wonder if I can pass it on as a xmas pressie while it is still in its plastic wrapper ?

    Is it worse than Troy?

    Surely not!

What would we do without Pixar!

I think those awaiting an 18 cert carnage fest will be a little disappointed to find that the director's cut is but a 15 cert.

I Had looked forward to the release of King Arthur, I had not read any reviews of this Movie, but my expectations were quite high.
My copy arrived Thursday, from www.play.com, price £13.99.
Well, what can you say about this awful film, it must be the first Turkey of Christmas !.
The dialogue, the story, the acting, the directing are all beyond belief, I could hardly wait for the thing to come to the end !.
If I had'nt paid good money for it, I would have switched it off, it is certainly the worst DVD I have ever had the misfortune to buy.
I had thought Troy was poor, but King Arthur is much worse.
The scenes when the snow was falling were the worst. One camera angle there was a blizzard, and the next, just one or two flakes of snow, and then a blizzard again. And it only ever snowed wher the actors were standing, very strange. It was so obvious the snow was fake !.
So my advise to anyone who is thinking of buying this thing, is keep your money in your pocket.
I award this film 2/10, and that is more than generous.

I quite enjoyed it. Worth 6/10.
Much better then The League... 2/10 and Van Helsing 4/10.
One of the worst recent films I thought was Cabin Fever.

You haven't seen Charlie's Angels 2 then. That IMO is the worst film ever.

Arthur gets my highest score yet of 0.1 out of 10

It started going bad when you see some of the nights with shaved heads - i reckon they should have been filming a british gangster movie

I had to phone my brother to tell him not to buy it before it might think about it

haven't seen it, don't want too.

If anyone wants to see a classic Arthur movie, buy Boorman's excalibur. It has violence, sex, and great acting. One of the top ten films of all time imho.

Oh, and Van Helsing was good!

Borrowed King Arthur of a friend and watched it yesterday. All I can say is thank god I didn't pay good money for it. This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen! The script and the acting were diabolical!

I can only second that. Excalibur by Boorman is The Definitive King Arthur screening so far. And also the first time Carmina Burana was ever used in a movie sound track.

Add to that early performances by Liam Neeson, G. Byrne and a bare chested Helen Mirren...

The commentary by Jon Boorman is actually quite entertaining as well.

King Arthur was astonishingly bad, saw it at the cinema (free ticket, thank God!) and won't waste my time with the DVD. :suicide:

well i wouldn't say that... but i must admit i did like it a bit. Shame they had to go with George Clooney instead of someone who can act, but you gotta get a big name to sell a movie it seems
