I was talking to a client of mine who just bought one for his missus and he reckons they are the dogs cojones and better than any MERC or BMW. Got every feature you can think of including voice activated this and that. So the point is should you not be going Japanese rather thasn German?

    are you an owner?

the Japs dont seem to go too much on styling but in every other aspect they seem to be streets ahead

    Apparently made by Toyota

They are sold in a lot of countries as Toyotas and basically they are just executive Toyota cars...but they are still damn nice cars!!!

I would happily have one of the new GS range rather than a Merc or BMW.

I'm a would-be owner (not rich enough). Yes, Lexus is Toyota's luxury marque.

Actually, I was a Toyota owner. The vehicle (a 1989 Carina Executive) was impeccable for the 12.5 years and 120k miles I kept it for.

If I was ever wealthy enough to own an executive car I reckon I'd go for a Lexus :)

I always fancied an IS200 but the Japanese version (The Toyota Altezza RS200) came with a higher powered turbo lump. The only problem was that most were auto's and I was not keen on buying an import.

I am not sure if it is still the case but I think the Japanese models came with quite a few more engine options compared to the European Lexus versions.

...oh and the auto option wasn't really an issue in the end as I ended up buying an Alfa 156 Selespeed anyway ;)

When I saw the title I assumed that it would be an Audi TT or some other hairdresser's car but Lexus is anything but Poncey.

The TT is definitly a bit on the 'girly' side but I wouldn't say no to the Quattro Sport or a nice 3.2 DSG ;)

I think la gran siete classes most modern cars that have a wheelbase longer than a matchbox model and an engine with more power than a Kenwood smoothie maker as 'poncey' ;) :D

No, any car that is not more than 15 years old and lacks copious amounts of rust is poncey

You won't want a Lexus if it's a company car - their CO2 figures are too high resulting in a heavy tax burden.
I had an IS200 until the new CO2-based tax regime.
Switched to a Merc C200 coupe and about to switch again , probably to a Jaguar X-type.
Lexus are now including the Nav. system as standard and Jaguar are going to follow suit. In time I am sure this will filter down to most manufacturers in the same way that air conditioning has become almost normal.

We dont get company cars but get a car allowance and then have an opportunity to lease vehicles from our employers - unfortuantly 18 months ago when I got my car the only decent vehicles on the list were Audi but when the lease is up in 6 months I will have a choice of a long list of Mercs or a SAAB - Lexus just aint there for me to pick

In fact I think all company cars should be Morgans. Would make the roads look far more attractive :D

both my cars are are more than fifteen years old - 1984 Mercedes 500SEC in extra poncey gold plus a 1987 Nissan Silvia Turbo.

Given that the Lexus IS200 can bearly scrape together 160 bhp for a 2.0l six cylinder, I'll skip it....

But not everybody buys a car for the engine power do they ? I go for comfort and fixtures and fittings above all else.

Well, all those fixtures and fittings adds a lot of weight to a car.

I like to be able to overtake without worrying, so I have always had cars with a bit 'o poke.

A Morgan is fine for the 1930's from whence it came but a little small and unsafe for modern roads. Unless its the Aero 8, then you have BMW power backing you, which kind defeats the 'I like my **** Toyota' argument.....

Oh, and a two year wait for a Morgan, while they wait for the trees to grow :rotfl: :rotfl:

Lexii are rather nice, but they do suffer from the affliction that affects most Japanese cars in that they're rather dull.............

As far as i'm concerned there's only one executive car to go for -

    :smashin: :D

I was having a chat with chap who owns a software company and he was telling me he'd been thinking of replacing all the company Astra cars with Skoda Octavias but unfortunately his staff had rejected them on the griounds of " not enough trim". I said "Whaaaat? Paint some go faster stripes on the side and tell them to lump it, the ungrateful so and sos!" " A car was desinged to get one from AB " I said "iF it as up to me I'd have given them a Trabant each and told them to get on with it" Saucy blighters. Whats the world coming people demanding "trim"?

You really are a spam monkey LGS ....

creating seamingly innoxious but invariably pointelss threads on bland non specific topics .... and then spamming answers in multi posts.

I've been watching you do it for months, its almost like you have a random thread generator running - pick a random topic off the internet and make a post out of it.

Is your post count that important ;)

Note: this is not intended as an insult, I am simply pointing out an observation.....

Seems calling cars poncey and pointing a link to brand names site rather than a specific model seems a pointless excersise ... same as posting three posts ina row of one line answers ...

you can 'edit' a prior post and add lines to it ... just the same as you can search the forums and add jokes or amusing things to the friday silly joke thread instead of creating 2 seperate threads for individual jokes one after the other ... just a thought

Its called gentle leg pulling or winding people up a little . No harm is intended. Life would be interminebly dull if one only posted in serious threads. But since you made the point the people I spoke and the conversation we had were real. the guy who bought the Lexus did so as a replacement for his wife 's P reg BMW and although its a dearer car the spec is much higher and in his opinion represents much better value for money. It just doesnt have the Kudos of a BMW which implies to me that people are too easily impressed by "names"
In the other case the chap in question couldnt ubnderstand his employees objections as he thought the octavia to be a very good car . I felt outrage when there are people starving in this world all these jokers can thionk about is a lack of trim????
as for Morgans well I happen to like them as I do any vintage cars. They have character which is something lacking in most modern cars ( including the Lexus)

I realise you wernt being offensive but then I'm never offended by anyone in here, so no worries there. For the record I happen to respect most of your postings even though I may not agree with them

    "SUV"??.........Oh, "Sport Utility Vehicle"

Um, well, it's not especially sporty, and it's not a utility vehicle, so i don't think it is one.

    I think you'll find it's a luxury off-roader................... :smashin: :D
