Seems there are a few of you guys on here who know their MOT stuff.

I wanted to know if it's possible to pass an MOT with a space saver wheel and tyre on one corner?

    Cheers! :)

no, it is a fail. the 2 tyres on an axle have to be the size. ie, wheel size, eg 14", aspect ratio, eg 70, and width, eg 185.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

except where the tyre aspect ratio is 80, eg 175/80T14, it can also be, 175/82T14 or 175T14

I'm not a MOT expert, but the space saver wheel is only supposed to be used to get you home, good for about 50 miles I think, so definitely not for day to day use, so would imagine it would definitely be a failure.

Just done a quick search and found on the honestjohn forums a discussion about this and people have confirmed if you have a space saver wheel in use it will fail the MOT.

On a similar note, would a car fail if the front tyres were of a wider lower profile than the rears?
My old Rover 214si had 185-60-14 on the front and I think 175-65-14 on the rear. Not the standard size but the handling was far better:)
I know it's standard practice on sports cars to have wider rears, but this was no sports car:D

My old 214 passed with 195/50r15's on the front and 185/55r15's on the back. I needed the extra rubber on the front to tame that 103bhp. :D

If I remember space saver wheels are a fail, even if 2 are fitted on the same axle.

Yep, two lovely square oval pipes that filled the bumper perfectly, sounded gorgeous

Mine lasted ages, until finally the cam carrier started leaking fluid of some sort into the plug bores :(

Yes that's a way out of having to pass an item that should fail but you can't, so just refuse to RBT.
Another is saying you want to road test it but it's not road legal. (Is road testing still an option? It was 3 years ago).

No... provided they are the same across the axle you'd be fine!!
