I have just been playing a demo of NFL Fever 2004 and throughly enjoyed it - the first time I have played US Football since Madden on the Sega Genesis.

Does anyone have an opinion on which is the better game - NFL Fever or Madden 2004?

I tend to like my games more simulation than arcade with some form of career modes.

I wasn't that keen on the control method for NFL Fever when throwing the ball - having to select the received before throwing. On the old Madden series it was just a case of throwing to the receiver depending upon which button was pressed.

Either of these games have drafts or trades?

Madden is pretty much EA Sports' flagship game, and they put more effort into its presentation and gameplay with each update than any other game on their roster. It plays as much like a management game as it does an on the field simulation, featuring draft picks, trades, ridiculous injuries that end careers etc... It's damn good.

    Fever doesn't stand up.

Well the new NFL2K4 is supposedly even better.

Of course the name of it is now ESPN Football, which someone has mentioned.

Madden 2004 is nice, but I'm sure I enjoyed it more back in the megadive days!

    Cheers

Well I brought NFL Fever in the end

I have to say the game play from opening whistle to the final whistle is spot on - hard to beat it I would imagine BUT

there is one thing that seriously bugs me -

The sim results that the computer produces are an absolute farce - scores of 85 - 45 are common - and when I look to see the rushing stats for all RB's at the end of the season there are a dozen or so running backs that have topped 3000 rushing yards for the season - impossible

It is the equivalent of Championship Manager simulating results of 8 - 0 all the time and players scoring over 70 goals a season!!

It has spoilt my enjoyment of the game - I am only playing at veteren skill level so not sure if this still happens at Pro Bowl level?

Does Madden/NFL2k3 produce the same silly end of season statistics or is it more realistic?

Never played season mode in any of these games, but both are acknowledged to be far more serious simulations than Fever is.

Fever is generally consdiered more arcadey.

I have nfl fever 2004 and it's pretty good stuff, although not in my opinion a patch on madden 2003.

However, it does have Live play which is completely lag free and very involving.

    Top stuff all around really.

I've been playing ESPN NFL 2004 for a few weeks now.

Best American Fottie game on the market IMHO. Madden 2004 just hasn't had a look in.

In fact, the whole of the ESPN line up (formerly Sega Sports) is terrific. ESPN NHL 2004 and ESPN NBA 2004 are also superb.

Can't wait for World Series Baseball.

    Cheers, Othello.

Play.com has it for a pound cheaper, also with free delivery.

But since the release date is a Friday, and both prices are pretty close to RRP, I might just bite the bullet and pick a copy up in a shop on Friday/Saturday.

Well I was about to ask when ESPN hit these shores, but looks like Friday - I am expecting big things from it the way everyone raves about it.

Still I traded in Fever for Madden yesterday - have only played it for an hour so far, but my intial thoughts are is that NFL Fever plays more like a simulation and Madden more arcadey.

I also prefer the the Fever control system and menu system more.

Hopefully Madden stats will be more life like though.

All intial thoughts and will know more after a good session tonight.

If I am not impressed I may take advantage of the Game 10 day return policy.

Ya sold me. I'll break my long tradition of never pre-ordering just for this game.

    Counting the days.

Well I can't get into Madden at all - it just doesn't feel right!

The Madden players seem to zoom around the pitch at 100mph so it feels as though you are holding onto their coat tails.

With Fever you have a choice of 4 different speed levels that makes you feel as though you ahve total control over the players and the plays.

Tell me - on NFL2k3/ESPN is it possible to slow down the play like Fever?

Gave up on Madden in the end - it just wasn't happening for me - in fact I think it is very poor!

ESPN Footy not out until 28th November according to GAME - so purchased NFL 2k3 to check it out as a stop gap!

Intial reactions are much better than Madden - this could well be the daddy of them all!

As Othello said, Gameplay have already shipped my copy of ESPN Football (NFL2K4). I should have it in my hands on the day of release.

EDIT: I stand corrected. It came this morning, the day before release. :smashin:
