Why is it that whenever there is a football game on BBC I get a message saying that the program is not available through my sky box and I need to watch it through my tv tuner (which is not connected to my reciever). Also the games that are shown through the digibox are broadcast in 4:3 ratio with stupid bars up both sides of the picture but through the tv tuner they seem to be broadcast in widescreen?

You will only get football on the BBC on Sky if they have the rights to the whole country only. If they only have the rights, say to show in Scotland only the programme will not be transmitted on SKY as you can watch any BBC region in any part of the country now.

Not that I watch much football, I don't have an analogue tuner anyhow so I can't watch it even if I wanted to!!

Sounds like you need to buy a Freeview box.

Better picture aswell as convenience of extra digital Tv source.

Of course a Freeview box recieving English regional BBC 1 can not show SPL games either since the BBC only own the Scottish rights apart from the Old Firm games one of which will be on this saturday UK wide:)

Your point is accepted though since he lives north of the border:)

I doubt that an analogue source would be in 16:9, possibly the 14:9 ratio which I can't see the point of.
Have you tried adjusting the digibox picture to 4:3 and no letterbox or true 16:9 if you have a w/s telly.

I have a widescreen telly, when I watch football via the tv tuner the picture fills the whole screen but when watching the same game through the digibox there is the black bars up each side. This is not the bars that the tv puts on for you, the bars are filled with a pattern as if they are part of the signal the digibox is putting out.

When you see a football game with the black bars up the sides it will be a game from abroad broadcast in 4:3 on a 16:9 programme the bbc and itv do this but sky don't. Analogue is not broadcast in 16:9 your picture will be filling the screen when watching analogue because of your tv settings. If you set your tv to 4:3 on analogue you will get the black bars. Your tv is probably set to wide mode, zoom, smart that is why it is filling the screen with a 4:3 analogue picture.

    cheers

If you want to get rid of the black bars when viewing through your digibox go to your picture settings in your digibox menu and change the settings from 16:9 to 4:3 but remember to change back when the game finishes.

    cheers
