    Hi,

I have a Yamaha HTR-5830 AV receiver which is a pretty weak, entry-level model. It is based on the RX-V359. I wish to replace the front satellites with a pair of Mordaunt Short Avant 904i floorstanding speakers as I am getting a good deal on them. Could anyone familiar with these speakers or perhaps even my receiver advise me as to whether this could work?

I had originally planned to build a separate stereo setup around the 904i - however I thought I might save some money by staying with this receiver for a bit longer. Would it ease the burden on the receiver if I set the receiver to regard the floorstanders as "small" speakers, thereby sending a limited signal to them so as to "preserve" them until a more capable amplifier arrives? Or would this damage them? One last thing: I have my receiver, tv, dvd player, cable box on a single power strip. Should I put the receiver on a separate power strip on its own?

Many thanks for reading this - I would appreciate any advice you may have.
