    Hullo all. :)

I'm looking for some new speakers, unfortunatly a drunk 'friend' managed to put a hole in my b&w 620's (very old) mid driver  . So anyway i in need a new set. I listen to loads of different music; hard house, house, trance, rock, the full spectrum really, but their intention is for music not dvd's (ok the very occasional dvd). What should be on my short list? And can anyone recommend a good shop in the birmingham area to go and try them out- somewhere where you're looked after tho i.e. not richers? I've seen the Mordunt & Short 906 avant bout for as low as £330 delivered, worth a look? They will be powered from a pioneer a-400 amp (again very old), may replace that too! Thanks in advance. :)

I was looking into the Mordaunt 906's a while back but then decided i didnt have enough room. but i found them Here for £250.
They seem to have put the price up but they are still a little cheaper than what you found :)

Otherwise what about something like the B&W 602.5 or 603?

What about some missions http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo-1.cfm/Product_ID/2019 or
    http://www.hificonfidential.co.uk/detail.asp/sku=Volar V63
or accustic energy are also very popular around here
    http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo-1.cfm/Product_ID/1278

and some alternative mordents http://www.hificonfidential.co.uk/detail.asp/sku=MS914A THX these ones I believe, might lack a little on the bass but you owe it to your self to get a sub anyway ;).

Also what amp are you using?

Agree with Falp on the Evo 3's.

Cheapest price I found by far was my local Sevenoaks (www.sevenoakssoundandvision.co.uk - to find local store).

Sevenoaks seem glad to audition speakers and for the £230 brand new, it was £40 cheaper than my nearest decnt-priced local supplier.

I'm running on QED Silver Anniversary with Airloc's and they sound very clear with a nice full bass.

Don't know the focal's. Kef make some great speakers, but never had the fortune of listening to a pair.

I can tell you though that the Evo's sound great blasting out some K90, Nick Sentience, Bk, lashes & the likes.

    Birmingham Store:

    http://www.sevenoakssoundandvision.co.uk/stores/main/mainbirmingham.html

Use the page below to see special offers at the store. Filter it by store to show stock in Birmingham

    http://www.sevenoakssoundandvision.co.uk/stockclearance/stockclearance.html

Note that there's a pair of Kef's there, probably boxed and everything.

Phone them, and se if they can get a set of Evo 3's for you to demo if not in-store already.

    Regards,

    Dan.

i bnought Evo 3s last week from a friend who was upgrading. I had heard his many times before and loved them. I couldn't resist when he offered them to me.

I now use them for music and Cantons for movies.
