    Hi,

A warning to all of you. For reasons I'm sure that only Buena Vista staff are privy to, R2 owners need to be aware of the following highly dubious practice.

As many of you know, early B.V. discs were "flippers", and were labelled as thus. They often had the purple-coloured rainbow-shaped word "WIDESCREEN" across the top and spine of the case, and thus were instantly recognisable.

However, B.V. have re-released "Armageddon" and "Starship Troopers", both with slightly different packaging. On the back, they now have an information panel, that lists the widescreen ratio, sound format, running time, etc, etc. However they have listed both these films, on the new packaging, as being dual-layered DVD's. This leads you to believe that you are now getting proper dual-layered discs! Alas, you aren't!!!

I bought a repackaged "Starship Troopers". However, upon opening the case, and studying the disc and internal packaging, you notice straight away that both this and "Armageddon" are STILL being produced as double-sided, single-layered discs, despite B.V. taking a panning about the "Armageddon" disc, and being forced to swap all double-sided films for dual-layered copies.

I was therefore forced to go back to HMV and get a refund for a disc that was incorrectly labelled.

I have now come to the following recommendation: I think that until Buena Vista, Disney and Miramax get their acts together, we, the people, should boycott this companies Region 2 output, and only buy their Region 1 or Region 4 counterparts!

Don't be fooled by their R2 packaging! If in doubt, ask a store member to let you open the DVD in their presence, before paying for it!

As for the R4 discs, Armageddon is Single sided disc, but with the following titles they are flippers

    Air Force One
    US Marshalls
    Starship Troopers
    Face/Off
    The Rock
    Colour Purple
    Casino
    Goodfellas
    Pelican Brief

there are many more R4 flippers but that is all I can think of at the moment
