    Hi

Hope someone can help. Bit of a long story but essentially my 2 sons have got bf1942 and thoroughly enjoy flying the planes in the game. They recently asked for & were given a Saitek Joystick (3d platinum) as a present but I've had real problems getting it work with bf1942 & have given up. Can't take it back so we now have a joystick with no game!

I was therefore wondering if anyone could suggest a similar type of flying game, ie, not full blown flight sim but something that involves basic flying & lots of shooting/bombing/dogfights etc. (Doesn't have to be WW2 era)

    Any ideas please
    Peter

Yes thanks Garrett, had a look at that thread but was wondering if there was anything that had come out since then.

I'll definitely have a look at the games mentioned though

The newly released 'Secret Weapons Over Normandy' is supposed to be more towards the 'arcade' end of the flight sim genre....

I'm hoping to buy a copy myself tomorrow, and will report back!

Just read a review of this and was going to post as well. In the review said it was a Spitfire flyer, one for non techies. To land all you do is aim for the runway and lower your undercarriage.

They should have said for 'one for infants'. This game really is an insult to any flightsim. It should have stayed in console land, where it firmly belongs.

    Wow - 'helpful' post...

PeterR said he wanted a flight 'game' not a full-blown sim...:(

When I had an Amiga I use to play Flight Sims a lot of the time such as F-15 Strike Eagle II and the Stealth Bomber just to name a few one etc but I enjoyed the Wings game where you started the game already in the air and ended in the air (if you did not crash or got killed).

sorry jchm - didnt mean to slag off your suggestion or anything, its just that i bought this game, expecting it to be akin to the original 'Secret Weapons Of The Lutwaffe'. It was nothing like (even though done by the same people). Even taking into account that its not supposed to be a 'full blown' flightsim, i really do think its bad, and just wanted to make sure that PeterR doesent make the same mistake i did. or at least to try this one from somewhere he can return it to.

was this the cinemaware one? - i really enjoyed that as well.

Yes that the one where you shoot planes and observation balloons (still can remember the sound when you killed one of the enemy planes off), it had two other types of missions beside the one that was like a flight sim. One was a isometric scroller where you shoot ground emplacements and one where you went on bombing runs in a vertical scroller.
