OK, I've been over one mistake, ordered and returned a Samsung PS42P3S, concerns solarization and posterization.

Now, after reading a lot and seeing the unit at showrooms I've ordered a Panasonic TH-42PA20 , after reading on this foruns (previosus read were over the american forun www.avsforum.com). I've learned that ppl complained on the panasonic set over flicker.

Few q, for any of you on the know....

    - Does this unit (TH-42PA20) actually suffers from that problem ?

On a side note, I understand quite clearly why CRT units have flicker, but on a fixed pixel display each pixel is driven independently thus making the flicker efect inexistant (like TFT monitors).

    - Why the PDP have flicker if they are fixed display ?

what happens is that when your sceen recieves a pal image, it reduces the resolution by 4 and then ups the pixel rate by 4 to reduce flicker. on dvd its okay but when you run sky through it you will notice flicker

Only if you are are susceptible to it. Some people are sensitive to it but most arn't.

I can't see it on the panny 6 series at all. I know others can though...

I was told by a dealer that all SD (standard def) displays will have some flicker.
I almost purchased the Panasonic-5 and then looked closed and saw the flicker.
The series-6 works differently and any flicker is not noticeable by most people. Regarding the US forum, I don't follow it closely but thought that most posts (100's ) were from people who thought it was the best SD plasma the've seen.

I seem to be quite susceptible to screen flicker and can see it on the Panny W6, but not on the TH-42PA20. The technical blurb claims something about "quasi 100hz" processing and it certainly seems to work for me.

W6 and WD6 both have 'quasi 100Hz' as well...

Must be a bum assumption on my part. Whatever it is I can see flicker on one, but not other - and that's across a range of installations.

At the end of the day the only way to find out is to look yourself.
