I have a Marantz Avanti - old system but still good. I have it in the bedroom at the moment - hooked up to Tannoy M3 speakers. I want to bring it into the front room - but - :thumbsdow the Mrs don't like the floor standing speakers. Are flat panel speakers suitable for music ? Or if not - ideas please.

It depends on what kind of flat panel speakers you are talking about. If it's the very flat panels that use NXT technology then they are not much good for anything let alone music.

A good quality flat panel type speaker which works superbly for music and movies would be the PMC Wafer range of speakers. They are only 4 inches deep and they do an on-wall or in-wall version. More details can be found on these below:

I've no idea how the M&K MP-150 speakers (user manual pdf) compare to the PMC Wafer range of speakers, but the M&K's are only 5.5 inches deep max, use normal type drive units, and are said to be very good for a relatively slim design. I'm thinking of getting a set myself.
