    Hi,
Is it possible to use the same utility program that you use to set a Pioneer DVD drive to quiet mode in order to flash the drive to make it region free? I've just noticed there's an update utility in there which it says is for uploading new firmware, anyone know if it's ok to use that in Win XP, seems an easier way of doing it than making a boot disc etc...

    Cheers,
    Andy.

    www.firmware-flash.com for multi-region firmware.

Not sure about the windows flash util (flashed mine in DOS)

Connect the DVD-ROM as secondary master, and do not have anything connected on the secondary slave connector.

It might work but the chances are the Pioneer software will want to verify the firmware first or 'hang' if it doesn't like the looki of it at the crucial moment; you might come unstuck.

I have just got a new 106S myself and will play it safe with a DOS boot disk method.

BTW where did you get your new firmware?

Did it using the boot disc method i.e. booting to DOS, seems to have worked ok. Glad I got what looks like one of the last 106S drives around, at least it gives me the option to get the LMP case if I need to
