I can understand that you can download a new F/W via a cable between your PC and an electronical device having a port such as USB/RS232. But for a DVD player, like my Denon 1920, it looks like reading a CD with the latest F/W could do the job. So is it just matter to put the CD in the player and everything will be update right away? The player detect the F/W file store on disk and then know what to do with it. What the format of the file? Binary? What the extension? .bit? Or do you have to put the CD in a PC, then connect the PC to your DVD player and send the file. Thanks for your help.

For the Denons the fw goes on a disk you put in the player. There are comprehensive instructions on how to burn the disks and how to use them for the upgrade. However if it fails, you need to return the 1920 to Denon and that may cost...

You can download an 4 mb iso file for the Denon 1920. Burn this on cd, follow the instructions that come with the MR firmware. And a few minutes later your Denon 1920 is region free. Can't go wrong actually

NOTE:- All the setup options of DVD player will be lost and will need reconfiguring as the firmware upgrade defaults the setup. In particular the Display device defaults back to scart so if you are using the component video connection you need to take this into consideration and have a HDMI or Scart connected display available.

    1) Write the ISO Image to a CD-R using Nero or other CD writing software
    2) Connect the DVD player to a display device
    3) Power up the DVD Player
    4) Note any settings you have changed on the DVD player as these will be lost after the firmware upgrade
    5) Using the remote control type in "9876" then press the "Search Mode" button on the remote control
    6) When the tray opens insert the Firmware CD and close the tray
    7) Please wait for the reading, erasing and programming process to complete (approximatley 5 minutes)
    8) Tray opens after it is complete now remove the disk (DO NOT CLOSE THE TRAY)
    9) Unplug from the mains (DO NOT CLOSE THE TRAY)
    10) plug the DVD player back in to the power socket, the process is now complete
