I have a Miranda 700 CD Multi-dedicated Flashgun that I bought some years ago for my Canon AE 1. It has two computer settings and a manual one. Unfortunately, I can't get it to work with my 350.

Does anyone have any idea what I might have to do with the 350 for it to operate, or is it a lost cause?

I would be very careful using an older falshgun on the newer digital camera's.

You need to first find out what the trigger voltage of the flashgun is, as most newer Dslr's need a trigger voltage of 6 or under and some older flashguns can have much higher than this (in the 100's) so you'd run the risk of frying your camera.

I'd personally go and buy a new gun but there is also the option of using the Wein Safe Sync.

This site lists flash gun trigger voltages, yours isn't listed but one Miranda that is has a voltage of 246v so beware.

Thanks for your reply. In the circumstances I'll buy a new flash as I don't want to fry my new camera.

look at the canon 430EX, its a good gun for the money, will work with all the TTL2 control on the camera, and its as powerful as most people would need, ive got that and a 580EX gun.

it can be picked up for about £160 from most places although jessops would probably try to sell you one for £230

Have a look here for some 430EX flash pics, I got one and just had a play with it, you can get very good results on the auto due to the TTL2 metering.

I got it from here for £164, excellent service.

If you're on a tight budget, go for the sigma EF 500 DG. You can pick one up for under £100.

I have one of these with my 350d - seems to work very well and is TTL2 compatible.
