    Ok

So, I have been given a £50 quid voucher for amazon off my work and I want to use it to buy a external flash for my camera.

I want to probably do some off camera flash photography but mainly to improve my photo's of the kids etc in low light conditions.

Have been looking at the YN 460 for around £34

    any recomendations

The Yongnuo flashes (460 & 560 for Sony mount) are excellent value for money - I have a 560-II and I am very impressed with it.
However there are a couple of caveats.
    1) They are Manual only, so you need to know how to set the right combination of flash power and camera exposure.
    2) They do NOT understand the Sony remote flash protocols. This means you must either use them on-camera, or use some form of trigger for off-camera work. Some models have a built in optical slave (the 560-II does) which allows you to use a second flash (the cameras pop-up flash will do) to trigger them, but this means you have both flashes affecting the picture, which you may not always want.

Just checked Amazon - the 460-II is £35, but is a little more powerful and adds the optical slave options, well worth the extra £1!

Are these compatible with the newer DSLT models or just the older DSLR ones - primarily asking about "on-shoe" use here :)

The Jessops one isn't manual, it is made for Sony TTL. The "S" denotes Sony as they are also available for Nikon etc.

Take your camera with you and make sure it works with DSLT (Jessops 360AFD-S)- and not just that it fires but the timing is right and it exposes properly - I've one that doesn't
