Most people seem to find the charging station for the 885 at bit hit and miss,
and logitech themselves have suggested putting tape over the dimples on the charger to help make better contact with the remote.

However, the 'tape' method is only an improvement and doesn't erradicate the problem, and it also prevents the remote from sitting solidly on the base.

So, I thought about a different method.
How about applying a little blob of solder to each of the 3 contacts on the base?
    Any thoughts?

Has anyone tried getting a replacement and if so was it OK. I wonder if this was a limited faulty batch or a basic design problem?

My 885 sits perfect every time.
I have even tried "one end down first", "side ways in" and "straight down" and it charges every time.
I've even tried "misplacing" it, and as long as it's not too far off, it slides home itself etc.
Sounds like your base or remote must be faulty.(warped plastic or bad contacts etc)

I will monitor mine, and report back if anything changes... ;)

I have once had a problem when my base was half hanging off the edge of the table (and so warping and at an angle). I moved it back onto the table and have never had a problem since.

I wonder if the base is particularly sensitive to being on a flat horizontal surface. Do the people with problems have the base on a good flat surface? Have they tried moving the base to another surface to see if that makes a difference?

    Cheers,
    Rowan.

I have to say that mine is spot on everytime.

I think the solder would be a disaster:

you'd make the contact surfaces a complete mismatch and invalidate your warranty.

My 885 also has no problems with charging or sitting on the base... so far. I tend to agree with PaulD that something must be faulty.

My charger sits on a plate glass table, so maybe there is something about the surface that alters it etc.

Try different surfaces, and see what happens... :)

Mine sits perfect 9 times out of 10 and on the ocassions it doesnt 1 re-seat and its there.

Someone over at remotecentral bent the prongs up a touch on the charging station which sorted there problem. Surely thats easier than solder?!?!

Ive bent the battery terminals inside a remote before to get better contact, so would have no problems with this method, although i wont be held responsible and you break a tag off!

I just got my Harmony 985 this morning and it wouldn't charge properly at all.

Well I wasn't having any of that nonsense, was I? So I opened up the charging cradle and bent the prongs upward. No joy, so I opened it up again, just to have a look, and noticed that the negative wire from the battery had been crushed by part of the casing. I don't know if I did that when I put it back together the first time or if it came like that! Anyway it still wasn't working so next I tried updating the firmware on both the remote and the RF Receiver. Hay Presto!!! It now works perfect every time now. Phew!

Not sure if it was just the firmware update, or if it was the combination of that, and bending the prongs up that sorted it, but hay, it works! :smashin:

Hope this might help a few people :)
