    Hi,

My garage conversion is virtually complete so I'm now looking for a new screen for my Hitachi TX200. My current screen is a Graywolf II which is I feel, at 92", slightly too big for my viewing distance of around 11'. In addition, in dark viewing conditions I don't like the general characteristics of this screen. It's 'shimmery' and I feel the image looses sharpness as a result. The picture is easier to watch with ambient light !

The new room is totaly light controlled, with no windows, and I've painted it 'odeon blue' it's actually called dramatic blue, but it's basically a very dark inky blue (wasn't brave enough to paint the room black!!)

    I'm looking for a fixed frame 16/9 screen of around 72" - 82" diagonal.

I want to achieve the best image I can, and definitely want a non-beaded matt screen, but without spending a fortune.

Am I likely to get a good enough fixed frame screen for around the £300 mark and can anyone recommend a make and supplier ?

    :lease:

Thanks for the link, but the so called 'diamond veins' sound like another version of glass beading and I definitely don't want another beaded screen.

Anyone got any other suggestions, bearing in mind my approx price limit of about £300 ?

    You could try www.direkt2u.co.uk.

They have a sale on at the moment and also do a 16.9 ratio 70'' screen. Not sure how much though. Walter is a good guy and really knows his stuff!

Your right about 92'' being too big for an 11ft viewing distance. I have 10ft distance a 70'' 16.9 works great for me. At 11ft distance it should look good.

All sorted now, many thanks Mahmood.

decided to go for a fixed screen of just under 83" which should be just about bang on I reackon'.

I thoroughly endorse Walter at www.direkt2u.co.uk - very clued up and extremely helpful. Plus anyone who offers to take a call to offer help at 10.30 at night is going above and beyond the call of duty as far as I'm concerned.

Just to be 100% clear - I PM'd Walter initialy, asking for help, and in response he offered me a number to call him on and to talk through my requirements. He didn't tout for my business but he's certainly getting it.

Seems as though Walter is (deservedly) getting quite a fan club. My experiences were exactly the same as True-Blue's second to none customer services and very good screens to boot :)

    Congrats on your new purchase:thumbsup:

I think you have gone for the right size given the screen ratio and viewing distance. Let us know when it arrives and up an running your thoughts compared to what you had. If you have a light controlled room, then matt white is the way to go.

I think you're right re the screen size, and I'm expecting a sharper more focused picture without the glass beading of the gray wolf II.

Screen's coming Wednesday but I'm on hol's from saturday so prob's won't have time to have a play before I go.

Will feedback in a couple of weeks time :)

You're probably still on hols, but I just wanted to tick this thread as I'm interested in how you get on with that screen. Cheers.

    Hi,

    Sorry missed your post !

The screen is excellent, high quality with a velvet covered frame.

Has further improved my PQ, so I'm very happy with the result. :smashin:

    I'll try and post a pic' :)

This pic was taken with the lights on full, using the cameras flash and I had to set the camera to night mode !

For anyone else who is still looking, I'd have to mention that Beamax fixed screens are really nice, I'm on my second one now (needed different size after house move).

CVS Media who advertise on here were the cheapest by quite a margin when I bought my second one recently.

Then again, True Blue is an Evertonian so this means he has discerning tastes. Maybe you should follow his recommendation.

Very nice cinema room! You seem to have got it nice and dark just like a real cinema:thumbsup: I'm sure the picture must be very good from whichever pj you put in there as the room has the biggest impact on the picture.

Noticed you also have MK 750THX spreakers, make sure your center speaker is the 'right way round' with the tweeter on the right hand side facing down as you have the speaker under the screen as per MK instructions:lesson:

Can't wait for the screen shots!

    Hi

Yes the tweeter should be on the right if you have the speaker under the screen. If you had the speaker on top of a tv then you would have the speaker with the tweeter on the left as you have. (BTW I also have the same speakers)

The reason for this is to do with the 'high frequency prism' crossover and 4.7 degree angle of the tweeter within the speaker and the interaction of the tweeter with the metal grill.

Don't worry about the logo as you can very easily remove the grill and turn it around so that the logo is the right way up(you're right that doing this will mean that the serial nos. are upside down on the reverse of the speaker). If in doubt have a look at the instruction manual.

As with most MK speakers, correct placement as per design is paramount to optimum sound. Have a listen by just turning the speaker over on the shelf and listen to a familiar soundtrack. (Like i said, MK stipulate this for a reason i'm sure.) Let us know how it goes.

Looking foward to the screen shots:thumbsup:

Should point out that the angle is because I was sat down when I took the pic !
