Just spotted a Pioneer DV-733A in Taipei and it reads DVD-Audio/DVD-Video on the front. Well, nothing unusal except the SACD logo on the glass panel left of the display, hardly could see it!
DVD-RW compatible, too. Yours for only TWD32000 but I think it's 110V only.

Looks like this: http://www.f8.com.tw/ (scroll down a bit) ...

Seen a few DVD-VR, 60" Plasma and HDTV sets around, watch the General section for my report - soon to come.

This is the same as the Elite DV-47A US model, the DV-747A European model, and the DV-S747A model. The differences are voltages, colours, and connectors(ie scart).

The Pioneer rep came round a week ago with the info on the Dv-747. It looks like it will appear sometime in February, price will be around £1,000 (My guess, hopefully less)

I thought that PAL progressive hadn't been agreed yet, or have I missed something recently.

That being the case it sounds pretty universal and I don't think that not supporting something that doesn't exist can actually take away from that. I know the theories for PAL progressive but don't they have to be agreed? Surely we could say that things are never universal, no support for hi def DVD, no dual layer recording, no 10.2 sound decoding etc.

Universal or not, it's a pretty impressive spec list. Besides, what's the use of PAL progressive, haven't we all been buying region 1 anyway?

As far as I know the term "Universal Player" is meant to be for equipment which is CD-Audio, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio and SACD compatible, i.e. PS is not part of the equation.
However truly universal should by now also include VCD, SVCD (both probably not a problem) and MP3.
Of course it would be nice if not great to have PS for NTSC and PAL, and a digital video out, and ... well, stop dreaming for now ...

Another key aspect of the player is the internal dts and Dolby Digital decoders. Not important for those with external amps I know, but still is impressive none the less.

Price for pre-order is between £799 and £899 depending where. HiFiBitz have Progressive Scan listed as a feature. Initially according to Justin - Upgrade Heaven there are only 100 coming in at the back end of January and I guess these will be shared amongst dealers. I for 1 will be patiently waiting for some feedback off initial purchasers before diving in and putting my card where my mouth is.
