I have never tried this type of photography so this morning I went down to the local playing fields to try with some Sunday League action..
    Critique/comments welcome

Looks like good amateur football stuff. Not much getting past that goalie. Who ate all the pies etc etc.

Some are a bit blurred - try upping the ISO to get a faster shutter speed perhaps?

Good pic's .. capture the scene nicely. IMO, 2/3 would benefit from a narrower depth of field, wider aperture perhaps?

Maybe 2/3 would have benefitted with a wider aperture. I was shooting in aperture priority and it wanted a narrower aperture because the shutter speed would have gone too fast (the limitations of ap mode with the Fuji S5600).

If I had more time I would have tried full manual mode. But I had to leave to fetch my daughter from choir practice.

Thanks for the comments. No problems with B&W is there? (if you have seen the identical thread on the DVD forums you will know what I mean) ;)

For good sports photos, check out Bristol Pete's image posts. 'Good' doesn't do them justice though, they are really top notch.

One could only dream of getting close to Bristol Pete's shots! :) But as a first go I was moderately pleased. Especially as I couldn't get close enough to the action (most were at full zoom) and I was using my lcd in bright(ish) sunlight.

His shots are ace but so is his camera equipment.

These shots are good seeing as they were taken with what is basically a compact with a 10x zoom.

    Very true ,
Kit aside though Pete has a knack for gritty sports images

That said,I keep being amazed and entertained at what hongkonguk seems to get off his 5600
