First time subwoofer

Whats the best first time subwoofer for a home cinema setup which will play music to... I'd say a 40/20/40 split tv+anime/movies/music.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but a subwoofer is a good point of entry to invest in right? i.e. not something I should skimp on?

I'm prepared to spend around £500 or so for a nice subwoofer.

Is that a decent price before diminishing returns start kicking in?

I travel a lot.. move every year or so as I'm a doctor. Varying from houses to smaller apartments.

Have a look at bk electronics, make good subs and British hand made.

£500 will get you a decent sub 'off the shelf'.

You could always DIY/commission something for a similar amount of money!

Hmmm...

Could I get a BK monolith for the price?

I'm terrible at DIY etc.!

My setup will be a

KEF Q500
KEF Q200c
KEF Q100 rears
AVR 3300

Would a BK monolith be good for this setup?

Speak to Tom at Bk, he is very helpful. Tell him the size of your room and what you listen to. I have bk xxls 200 and it certainly gives out some Base. Haven't heard a monolith but according to a lot of people on this site it is popular.
