Well I'm building a new machine in the new year, I've decided on the case I want to use (Fractal design define xl). It's a gorgeous case, well designed and plenty of hard drive space, so thats a set.
Only trouble I'm having is staying in budget with what to put in it.

Baring in mind I need it to run solidworks reasonably well, and be able to run cubase across 2 24" screens eventually. Got a 21" I can use temporary for the time being.
It's also going to be used as media storage, I've got too much media and not enough disk space being on a laptop setup currently. Hard drives aren't a huge issue I want a decent boot drive in there but I've got a few storage ones laying about.

Am I budgeting enough, I don't do any pc gaming at all, little bit of photoshop but mainly CAD and Music production.

OS I can get free off uni.
So, oh wise PC gurus, what do you reckon?

MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) Intel Z68 Socket 1155 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard £123.48

Intel Core i7 2600k 3.4GHz Socket 1155 8MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor £244.48

Corsair 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Vengeance "low Profile" Memory Kit CL9 1.5V £70.00

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo (Sockel 775/1155/1156/1366/AM2/AM3/AM3+/FM1) £27.57

Crucial 64GB M4 SSD £80.00

OCZ ZS Series 550W 80+ Bronze PSU with 135mm Fan & single +12V Rail £49.96

Total £600.47 (free delivery from ebuyer).

The Intel HD3000 integrated gpu supports dual displays. Cooler is a basic one but will be quieter and cooler than the stock Intel one and will be fine for a mild overclock of around 4.4-4.5GHz. Small SSD to boot OS/programmes.

You reckon the onboard graphics will be alright for CAD work though, I sort of assumed I'd need a reasonable card for solidworks?

Sounds ideal though man, cheers for the spec :smashin:

I would have thought the Intel HD3000 would be OK but maybe have a google to double check. At the very most you'd need a very basic card I would have thought.
