First time Blu ray buyer

Hi all

I am putting together my first home cinema set, pretty excited about that! Stuck to 1 brand and smaller speakers to keep the wife happy ;-)

The set I am opting to buy is as follows:

Pioneer
TV: KRP 500a
AV rec: SCLX71
speakers: Monitor Audio R270HD av set, RS W12 sub

Already have a 2 year old DVR-930 DVD/HDD recorder which is great and also want to buy a Blu ray player.

Ideally I would like to have a Blu ray/DVD player HDD recorder combo but cant find one. Am I overlooking something if not when are these expected to enter the market

Also I red about Live content option with some of the topline models, is this expected to be available on entry models

Last but not least.. I see big price gaps between players, does this equate to picture quality differences or is it merely features?

thx

Mate at your level you should be looking at the Pioneer BDP-51FD or the Panasonic DMP-BD55 which is available with big discounts at the moment. Don't worry too much about BluRay Live unless that really excites you.

I paid £320 for my Pioneer and it's very good. Ideal for your set-up I'd say. But if you like BluRay Live, then i believe the Sony BDP-S550 has it and is also good and heavily discounted. Just check out the Richer Sounds website.

Going up a level really means getting a Denon DVD2500BT which doesn't have an ethernet socket so no BluRay Live. But at £600 is the next real jump in quality.

BD live can be found on most (?) profile 2 players not just top of the line.
Eg the Panasonic BD35 less than £200 and does most things. Soon to be replaced though.

the only difference to it and the more costly 55 is that it has analogue out puts.

My BDP-S350 £167.00 multi region for DVD from Richer Sounds - fabulous machine for the money! I haven't looked back. DVD upscaling also excellent to my eyes.
