First step into Surround Sound - help!

Hi there,

I've now decided to dive in and go for a surround sound set-up and am pretty much set on buying the Onkyo 605 as reviews sound excellent etc.

So moving on to the subject of speakers - I currently have the Bose accoustic mass 3 speakers and I was wondering if it was possible to use these with the 605 and then add more cubes??

would that work given that the AM3's cubes are fed from the sub??

Am I wasting my time and should I just go the whole hog and invest in a set of speakers designed for the job?

if so what suggestions would you come up with? - I need small and discrete otherwise the wife will sack me quick smart!

All help appreciated.
Cheers
adam

by the way the set-up I intend is:

Sky HD & PS3 into the Onkyo 605 both over HDMI in - and then HDMI out to my Sammy LE40F86 ......

Well I keep saying this but I bought the Jamo a102 5.1 set which is extremely discrete and sounds great (from my POV anyway).

Check pics in my signature for the front speakers, will be taking some of the rears later. Solid little speakers and great value - search on these forums for reviews.

Yah, it's pretty big! Make sure you have some space above and behind for ventilation as most people say they run very hot. Mine seems ok in the space it's in.

The 605 is a little baby, you should see what an 805 looks like. To answer your original q, the bose cubes should make a noise, you need to set your crossover high, as they can't do much under bat squeaking level. You'd therefore need a sub which can be made to work, your bose one might do it, depends which one.
