hi all, what film are you going to christen your z2 with?
personally it will be finding nemo.
Amelie or Moulin Rouge
well after avia and PAL test disc...... lotr TTT
After Avia as well mine will probably be lotr TTT as well
I'll say LOTR TTT as well but I'll probably end up chopping and changing films for a bit.
Probably Finding Nemo as I've not been able to bring myself to watch it on the 32" telly knowing that I'll be able to 'premiere' it on an 7 foot screen if I wait
I have an additional thing to look forward to..... first proper testing of my new biamped centre
LOTR TTT turned up stupidly loud for me
then an old favourite or two out of the collection....
LOTR TT as well followed by 1 or 2 episodes of Band of Brothers
edit:Ive also got my new Marantz amp and B+W speakers itching to get out of their boxes
z2 mania gone mad I tell you
Aahhh BoB. Quality. Never get tired of seeing that again and again.
Forget 1 or 2 episodes. Do the whole lot!
but we all know that you say this in good chance that you will join in once you know it is safe!
Hi Buns what is the pal test disc and do you need one of these as well as avia, thanks
i have already tested my Z2 with a few films, of some tlotr ttt, monsters inc, matrix rel...etc
but since i have no sound, only speakers and an amp, i can't really appreciate it at this moment in time, or for another 6 weeks! till i get a processor
First film I'll watch will be the original Matrix - opening shots really REALLY test black levels of any projector. That'll definitely be the first one on my AE500
Ooops. I just realised this thread is about the Z2. Same principle applys right?
Well AVIA only does ntsc, so that means that when you watch region 2 (europe) or 4 then you are watching a picture which isnt calibrated. So to my mind, a pal test disc is pretty important. Well i only say that because im going the whole hog with a proper meter. I will attempt to prove whether or not I am right. I will calibrate with AVIA and replicate the settings to PAL and analyse the picture it gives..... that should show how much difference the pal disc makes.
The disc is a german one unfortunately, but for me im not too bothered. I will report back when I have it and let you know. Keep an eye on the 'projector setup' thread.
What you need is an elderly gentleman playing the piano in the corner.
Get some old Harold Lloyd dvd's and you're sorted.
lol weirdfish but the torture is almost unbearable!I have 5 lovely speakers, a nice av rack, a very nice Rotel power amp, nicce speaker cable, a very nice projector, waiting dvds all in my room-BUT no processor for another 6 weeks!!!!
how will i live!
Get the family to do all the speech if u now the films. and a freind to do sound effects
Why 6 weeks??If you have it on order get it from another place;if its a fundage problem get your loving parents to sub you! After all,Im sure they will end up watching 1 or 2 films on ure set up
Buns, thanks a lot will definitely keep an interested eye on the pj set up thread
I guess Freds parents have drawn the line at the Z2 funding Fred, couldnt you borrow (or even buy) a cheap amp to keep you going (or demo one for six weeks )?
Otherwise, silent films I would recommend are Nosferatu, Metropolis, Battleship Potemkin and Birth of a Nation
When my Z2 arrives next week I think I will be watching Kurosawas last samurai movie Ran (masterworks edition not the chronic fox transfer) first. Great epic, nice colours.
Fred what about Cambridge Audio A1 from RS for £60 as a stand in, sure you could sell it on for little below that. I know its stereo, but better than silence.
RS also do a cheap eltax av amp for £100
yeah i think i might just do that, i have a spare £70 so i might just get a cheapo one just to last the 6 weeks, yeah my mum has funded the Z2 so i can't really ask for any more, obviously i will be paying her back for the pj soon!
Fred - can't you pick up an av amp from Argos, and enjoy that for 16 days? (naughty I know!)
Please dont watch the Two Towers as your debut film. I know its subjective but personally, I dont feel that it has a great picture, although I agree that its a wonderful spectacle.
Please consider Swordfish..!
Going for a bit of a classic but I think it will be ape throw's bone in air and the following docking sequence from 2001. That should check the contrast, blacks and brightness all in one go
Well, that's first scene first for me at least.. demonstating the PJ to others will prob be one of those already put forward...
2001: Pretty apt, the music, the ecclipse sequence, shame I only have it on VHS
Indeed. To quote Animal House... "I anticipate a deeply religious experience!"
