    Hi everyone,

Looking for my first digital camera and was wondering if people could direct me to some suitable machines.

I want the machine primarily for snaps so it must be small, light and tough. However, I also want to be able to adjust the shutter speed and aperture. A fast zoom lens would be handy and I would also prefer a camera with a metal body. A tripod mount would also be nice.

I don't want to spend loads of money as I already have a decent Contax G2 system, but I would be willing to splash out for the right machine.

Does such a digital camera exist?

    Thanks!

    Hi!

Depends on your budget really. My recommendation would be to look at the Canon Powershot A (75, 80, 85) series or the G6 if you can stretch the budget.

I have used all these and love them to bits (as far as "point and shoot" cameras go!)

You specifically mention a metal body. Mind if I ask why? It immediately pushes the budget up 15% or so.

    Hi Colin

Metal body? I like solid build quuality and the cool touch of metal on skin!

I'll take a look at the models you've mentioned.

    Cheers.

Sony P100, 120, 150 and I think W1 have metal bodies. Canons have more flexibility with aperture and shutter priority but have plastic bodies.
