      @Simon Crust

      Thanks for the review Simon.

I concur with you on the picture & sound ... the 4K picture is an impressive step up from the 1080p Blu Ray & reveals rich colours & details. I was very impressed with the the picture. The sound is ‘ok’ but nothing to write home about.

A very worthy 4K remaster & upgrade imo though.

A really great film and a perfect cast throughout from Sly (who would eat things that would make a billy goat puke) to the excellent Richard Crenna (I’ve come to get my boy) & Brian Dennehy (im gonna pin that congressional medal of honour to his liver) as the king **** cop.

A superb establishing film that does indeed add credibility & lead to the incredible action filled sequels with the glorious soundtracks (which I consider to be the best action scores of his career) from Jerry Goldsmith.

Top stuff, thanks for the review. We seem to be getting some good older re-scans at the moment. Long may it continue.

Christ.. When I got my UHD Blu-ray player and 4K screen recently, I said to the wife "I've got this set up in anticipation of JAWS, I'll be buggered if I'm going to replace my Blu-ray collection with UHD versions as they trickle out......". To quote the wife "Buggered eh!?"

I have all three, and this is my fav the picture looks great with not much grain, colours look really good and the opening chase scene looks bright and detailed really happy with it. the sound as always been a little disappointing but it sounds good enough.

part 2 & 3 picture are amazing they where filmed in a much brighter locations so the picture really pops great films

A give the film and picture 9

Can’t wait to watch all 3 having received the Steelbook Box Set from Amazon France today.
Really enjoying the older films, both Cliffhanger and Braveheart looked great.

Goonies and BMX bandits next and I would be in UHD Blu Ray heaven!

I'm not sure I've seen this one but Simon's description definitely makes a film I want to see. I think I might wait and get this and Predator (sold my copy) when they are a little cheaper. Pity about the sound though.

Can i ask is the vanilla 1080 Bluray in the set been remastered or is it the same as the already issued edition. (Not gone over to 4k....yet , but with so many action classics getting great reviews , i dont think it will be to long)

Just wanted to know has the remastered version been given a bluray release and more important is it any better than the previously released version image quality wise.

Stallone was always a better actor than he was given credit for and First Blood is one of his best performances. My Dad enjoyed it so much, we actually had a First Blood party of sorts. He invited all my family who didn't have a video player round just to watch it.

When did they rebrand this to "Rambo - First Blood"?

All shops seem to be listing it as this (and artwork appears to confirm this) , just a minor point after the avf podcast rightly pointed out originally there were only two Rambo films originally ....First Blood pt 2 and -rather stupidly - Rambo III.

At least it’s a bit less of a mouthful than other examples of Title reverse engineering :)

Still think the third is the best action Rambo film and the forth the best drama Rambo film. Was never really a fan of the first two, they're..........ok.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I must admit that’s a bit lost he casual on me but depends what era you watched them I guess.

First one to me is one of the best movies Stallone ever did and if anything the 2nd and 3rd are what ruined its credibility amongst the casual movie fans

I was born 2 days after the first Rambo so didn't watch it until 10 years later :D It's one of my favourite Stallone films as well along with the first Rocky, Cliffhanger and Copland.

I didn't like the 2nd and 3rd Rambo that much! But Stallone redeemed himself with the 4th 2008 Rambo  a final Rambo film is scheduled to come out next year, hopefully ends the franchise with a bang!

I think it all depends on a lot of factors - how you rate & feel about the sequels.

I’m a huge fan of the entire series & whilst I firmly believe that First Blood is the best film ... I thoroughly enjoy the sequels & believe they have the most repeat viewing enjoyment.

The action scenes are superb, they are real with zero cgi, real helicopters, tanks, explosions & Sly & Troutman on great form ... plus the incredible music scores from Jerry Goldsmith for parts 2 & 3 provide some of the most stunning action music I have ever listened to ... even to this day.

I also love how Rambo mellows in part 3 and we get some humour from John J ... along with Sly’s biggest physique & Rambo’s biggest knife.

This film is epic and has stood the test of time perfectly.
Absolutely faultless. That alternative ending (which can be seen in the fourth film flashback) thankfully was taken out and replaced after test audiences gave it the thumbs down.
      Thank god they did that
