The Revenant, Lucy or Passengers would be my picks. All three look pretty fantastic...

@Tim2049 had some good choices, I'd also recommend Pacific Rim and Interstellar as well.

How come no one ever mentions Avatar. I personally don’t know but can only imagine that’d look awesome!

Well I think that's probably because it's never been released in 4k, so.....

Maybe give a list of films you like and then members on here can say which ones they think look great...

As I would not want to sit and watch a film that not my kind of film just because the picture looked good..

I know I have certainly done this before, either just to stretch the legs on a new product or just to show off to a friend.

      Thanks for all the replies.
I just thought I would get a recomendation of a few that got made with 4K HDR in mind, I know in the past when 3d was a thing and it got added later it was not very good so i thought it would be the same for 4K HDR.

I like My big action movies (GOTG, Avengers, John Wick, LOTR, StarWars) animation ( Incredibles, Coco) Horror anything that would visually great, but also a half decent movie.

I do that constantly. 80% of the 4k films I rent are crap, but I see it as 'testing' the TV and I get a lot out of that. Even if I do watch half of them in fast forward...

Well.worth it. Blue Planet 2 is the most consistently stunning, but Planet Earth 2 is more varied. Unfortunately about 10% of the footage is 'subpar' in the latter however. A fair few shots throughout the series seem almost standard definition by comparison. Plus there's a falcon scene in the last episode that will break your heart. Not through the bird's plight, but because how much those sequences turn your tv into a broken, juddering mess...(you'll see what I mean).

Essential purchase though. Personally, whilst a bit more limited in scenery obviously, i redkon Blue Planet 2 is the better of the two. Plus if you get an oled, those deep sea sequences are guaranteed to impress...

There are still a fair few that are upscaled from 2K masters, but more are coming through with native 4K masters.

i don't know if your TV has the bbc 4k iplayer app, but right now the Dynasties series is looking utterly mind blowing. If your tv doesn't have the 4k app, for £24.99 you can get the latest 4k Now TV box which has the bbc 4k iplayer. Both Currys and Argos have this deal this weekend as part of Black Friday week . Yeah it's genuinely amazing.

You still get some banding and a few other oddities, but it really is impressive. For BBC Nature, I'd still buy the UHD discs, but if the BBC releases more UHD content on the iPlayer with HLG, I'm fine with "renting" it.
Yep. Blade Runner to show how good an old film can look and how good a new film can really look. Though you do need a good telly for that one.

I'd look at a lot of the older films that have had a 4K scan. Really does make your blood boil how re-issue with I'm sure less purchases, get a 4K scan and new films that will sell 100k's+ or millions get a lazy ass 2K DI.

Remember, it's not all about flash and whizzpopping. It can be about how good a film can look that you remember about in the past that had a whoopsy whiffling PQ.

Go watch what you want. Be aware that some films have a 2k master and bumped to 4k (but get HDR). Get a 4k master and just enjoy it. Sink into the film and just go with it.

I pop in here when I cannot be bothered to look the film up individually, for a guide.

No. My TV Samsung js8000 doesn't do HLG (HDR) neither, I think, does the Roku SS+, nor the Now TV box I mentioned(yet, but might in the future) . But the clarity is spectacular.

As has been said above, nearly all modern 4k films are only upscaled 2k films, this, I understand, has something to do with the additional cost of the CGI, editing and post production that the full fat 4k incurs. The thing about the BBC Dynasties iplayer stream is that AFAIK it is in full fat 4k unlike their previous so called 4k offerings.

There are quite a few 4k from the edit now.

Either way, go watch a few. Make your own mind up, part of the fun.
