Firmware version 2.0 is being released tomorrow for the Japanese PSP. It includes a web browser and some enhanced video codec support (and support for AAC audio amongst other things), but it may not allow full res video to be played from the memory stick.

I am between 2 minds as to whether or not I should upgrade. It seems that video files will require a new file naming structure, so I am not sure if anything I have put on my memory stick so far will still work after the upgrade. I know there won't be any answers to these questions until after its released, but would appreciate it if anyone finds a review of the new firmware on the net could post a link here. :)

I installed this update this morning and if you're not bothered about homebrew it's excellent.

Had a quick play and the Internet browser is very good. Several different display options so there's plenty of scope for viewing each page the best way on the small screen. Cookies and secure sites are supported so you can pick up web mail etc. So far I have played around with lots of different sites including avforums and it all works fine. No support for flash but it's not the end of the world. The only difficulty is text entry of course but that's to be expected. If you just have all your pages of interest bookmarked this is an excellent addition to the PSP.

You can now change the colour theme and use any of your photos as wallpaper so that's a nice touch.

No problem with old video files, all my stuff still works okay.

    Hi Guy's,

Where can I download v2.0 PSPhome has a link but it takes you to the US site (which hasn't got it) A link would be good.

Also as I've just got my PSP, how do you upgrade the firmware from a download?

    Thanks

Well I upgraded mine and all went well. I don't have wireless, so can't test the browser!

I added some AAC songs (from my iPod) to the Music folder, but it doesn't recognise them. Do I need to do something else with the files?

I've done the updated and played around with it for while and everything seems OK, Handed it back to the owner, within 5 minutes he returns showing me an error page from ebay,

'browser won't accept cookies, your browser could be out of date and it gives me two options, either update IE or Netscape, not much good for the sony, have any of you guys tried ebay or any other sites and had this error, any comments, advice much appreciated.

Mine wouldn't log on due to some IP error (though I could download the pack via my wireless router with no problems). Will look into it tomorrow. Only tried it once, as I got my modded Xbox back today. :)

I had the same problem initially on yahoo mail because the latest version only supports certain popular browsers by the look of it. Yahoo mail does give you the option to use an older version of the site and this works fine on the PSP browser. Ebay does seem to have a problem when you try to login in to "my ebay" with the PSP. It's currently the only site I have found that the PSP browser doesn't seem to like although I'm sure there are more.

I didn't even need to do that...formatting the card in the psp creates the games folder (and others) then i just dragged the update file onto the games folder...found it on the memory card and ran the update.......piece of cake :)

I have a laptop that is connected to broadband by ethernet cable. I have an Acer IPN2220 wireless card in my laptop, and want it to emit a signal that my PSP can pick up. I've got my PSP to work through an Apple Powerbook easily but not my laptop. I'm using Windows XP and my PSP is using version 2. I have tried many times to get it to work but to no avail. Any suggestions guys?

    Cheers in advance,

    Craig
