A message came up on my daughters firestick this morning stating that from 1st Jan 2018 youtube will no longer be available on this device, not sure if its amazon or youtube that is removing the service.

i would say that my daughter uses this app all the time and will effectively make the fire stick redundant, so will need a new device that supports youtube.

might even think about stopping prime, (hardly ever watch it, and rarely use amazon for shopping now)

Well that's a massive pain in the backside, just bought a firestick for an Xmas present for my daughter, and she uses YouTube more than any other app!!! I'm guessing there's a chance that it may be resolved as everyone will be sending their sticks back and looking elsewhere !

Until it happens nobody knows how it will be implemented, hell it may not even happen TBH

I'd be absolutely flabbergasted if there weren't workarounds within hours of the block taking effect anyway.

Especially for families who have bought for xmas presents for kids etc as there glued to You Tube .

Try searching for chromecast on Amazon. Maybe stopping Google selling directly is understandable but if you're a marketplace seller there's a specific ban on selling Chromecast.

It's absaloutely pathetic !! The only people this nonsense will effect is the customers who bought fire tv products.

I have been using my Fire TV box for a while now and it's been great. However, it will be going on eBay very soon and will be replaced with a Roku stick.

Wont be buying any Amazon branded products for a while !!

My suspicion is that every other internet streaming and TV catch-up service is more popular than Amazon prime TV

Well, Amazon obviously has given this some thought, because the Firefox browser is now available for FireTV, with a suggestion that it can be used to access YouTube content. I tried the browser, and it rendered the AVFoums website just fine .....

Many people including myself have side loaded Smart YouTube which is far better than the Amazon version, this identifies itself to YouTube as an LG TV so hopefully wont stop working on the 1st Jan.

The author is actively developing this app and updates it almost daily and the app itself prompts you to update so it only needs side loading once.

I've found 99% of HDR material plays flawlessly on my FireTV 3.

I find nothing plays in HDR with that app??? The videos play (unlike many of the HDR videos on the Amazon app) but it definitely isn't switching HDR, what am I doing wrong?

Assuming you have the FireTV3 and your TV is setup for HDR then whilst playing an HDR video bring up the onscreen controls and move the cursor across to the quality button and select, from there move over to the video button and select and from there choose a different vp9 stream until you find one that lights up your TV's HDR symbol. It will then usually remember the setting for subsequent HDR videos.

My TV is an LG 65 B6.

      Thanks :)

I did figure it out for myself last night just before I went to bed (stupid Christmas headcold stopping me from thinking logically!)

It's definitely a cracking app and plays so much more HDR content than the official Amazon app (which is already directing you to use Silk or Firefox for YouTube) did.

Thanks for the pointer to it :)
