    Hey all

Recently applied to join the WMFS and was looking for info as to what to expect during the recruitment process. Before you all point me to the website where it details training etc, what Im actually after is just personal experiences from people who have applied in the past who may or may not have succeeded.

How long it takes for them to get back to you after initial application would be nice too.

    Cheers

You'll get to learn a second trade, like bricklaying or driving a courier van... Get to sleep and train for most of your working day, learn the best way to break into a house...

Hey, d'ya know why policeman were created? So fireman could have hero's too!

Joking aside, I know absolutely nothing about it but I wish you all the best of luck!

    And yep, I'm a copper.

Many Many applicants make it difficult to get in, apply to different counties/areas if you can to increase your odds, apply to be a retained firefighter for experience.

For London it takes about six months to a year from application date to start date.

    The key stages where
    application form
    Fitness test......shuttle run bleep test.

Work related physical........Walk up a training tower in full firefighters kit without holding on to anything, a grip test which measures power of you strongest hand and a simulated 9metre ladder pull( basicly pull down on a rope connected to a pulley to lift a set weight up to the ceiling and back down gently in a set time.

crawl through a confined space with a child size dummey one way and back again but with reduced vision in a set time.

Interview...........5 key questions about various situations in your past in which you have demonstrated the qualities they are after.

i.e Describe a situation when you have gone out of your way to help someone?
Just think managment talk.......strong work ethic, forward thinking, good communicator, work well under pressure and so on!

medical test including hearing and sight.

This was about 6 years ago and it may be different up there so just pop into your local fire station they would be best one's to help you, you may even find a new recruit to guide you.

    Good luck mate

How can firemen be corrupt? i dont understand.....

He's not bad, the problem is smashing the windows in the house so he can run the hose through, and then obliterating the plants with too high a pressure!
