Fined for missing engineer?

Does this sound right?

I dont have all the details but basically my fiance's sister moved home from New Zealand in December. They moved back in to the house they owned and decided to get the complete sky package; tv, phone and broadband. Their phone line needed to be changed over and such for the broadband as there wasnt one in. Basically she was told the sky tv would be installed on the 4th of january which it was, she was still waiting for the phone line to be sorted by BT and once it was the phone and broadband would be sorted too.

Today was the day the phone and broadband was all supposed to be sorted, she got her days mixed up and from what I gather she basically wasn't in when the sky person turned up (not overly sure why they needed to turn up) as a result of that she has been fined somewhere around £100 for that by sky for not being available.

As I say, don't have the full details but i'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and can shed some light on this for me, does it sound right?

For telephone line installation and faults the work is done by Openreach, even though the line rental etc. may be through Sky (or e.g.TalkTalk etc. )

BT Openreach engineers charge £85+vat for a missed appointment and this is being passed on to her.

Try negotiation but good luck.

makes more sense now cheers, I think she has already basically "fessed up" to them that she just forgot so I doubt they will be too forgiving with it!

Can't see how Sky have the nerve to charge that. In the past I've waited in for engineers who havent turned up, and didn't even get a proper apology.

If you write them a polite letter explaining how you had to take unpaid leave, Sky will invariably give you compensation in the form of a refund or free viewing.

Likewise, if the lady in question had been slightly dishonest and had written a letter about visiting a relative who'd had a heart attack, she'd probably have been excused. (Not that I'm advocating that!) :)

As I said earlier. it probably wasn't Sky who called but Openreach (as they handle the phone side of things) booked by Sky

Openreach charge Sky for the missed appointment (in this case the customer's fault) and Sky are passing on this charge

I did eventually get some compensation, but it's minimal and doesn't really compensate for the wasted time and loss of a days leave.
