Hi, I recently bought Finding nemo (R1), and have noticed that in a certain shade of blue the fish have a border around them, a slightly lighter shade of blue than the rest of the screen. In certain scenes it is quite obvious, has anyone elso noticed this as I tried it on my dads system and it appears ther also, we have different DVD players but both have the same TV, a Toshiba 50WT29. I dont think it is convergence as we recently had a toshiba engineer out to sort out both TV's and all other films are OK.

    Cheers

cheers for your reply, you probably would have noticed it as it is quite obvious, at the begining when Marlin and coral swim out into open water you can see it!

    Cheers

The fish are meant to look like they are glowing, I thought the same thing when I saw it in the cinema.

i have also noticed this on my 42 Tosh RP, but only the once, around about the middle of the film.
It seems that this one was not a very good transfer.

Maybe there have been a few complaints to disney/pixar (you know what them yanks are like for maoning :) ).

So maybe we might get a decent version in the future.

Its probably a form of colour banding problem, 8 bit colour has its limitations.

Yeah I spotted this on my 28" Panasonic and on my girlfriend's 28" Bush TV, it was annoying me quite a lot when watching the film - noticed it at more than one point.

Watch the scene were nemo gets cleansed in the fish tank. Its even more obvious. IMO, its supposed to be there. I have noticed at home on my screen and at the cinema.

    Cap:)

Dont think we are talking about the same thing here.
When he gets cleansed in the fish tank, then there is supposed to be a bright halo around him......showing that he is now very clean.
What i saw was like a square of a view foil with the fish on it...making a light blue square in the sea around the fish.
Its the outline of where they have super impossed the fish on to the back ground ocean area.

Thats the best way i can describe it any way.

I think I know what you are talking about, it's at the beginning when they are talking about how great their home is. It looks like they did the animation of the sea and the fish separately then cut and paste!
I think the transfer sucks, there are other points in the film where you can see banding and aliasing, I hope the R2 version doesn't suffer from this.

Pixar don't comp their shots together they render them in one pass.
I can't remember seeing anything on Finding Nemo other than glow.

The transfer struck me as being excellent.

Being quite familiar with this disc ( my 2 year old watches it at least once a day) I'm reasonably sure what you are seeing is not an artifact but a combination of glow off the fish and a lighting technique known as caustics (light beams refracting underwater) with the fish blocking out the light.
