Saw Final Fantasy the other night and can sadly report that it's a pile of tosh!<br />Although the CGI is breathtaking in some parts, you can't help noticing the flaws with character expressions (such as eye movement e.t.c.) and as for the story line, well it's pure Japanese drivel. The script that actors such as Donald Sutherland have to read is laughable and one can also detect a hint of sarcasm throughout the movie in his tone as a result. Action scenes are few and far between (unlike the ad would have you believe) and the storyline plods slowly becoming more and more incoherent as the film continues.<br />Definately one to avoid!<br />Here's hoping Planet of the Apes lives up tp the hype. <img src="eek.gif" border="0">

Hmmm, I thought Final Fantasy was ok. You just have to ignore the hype and see these films with an open mind....as for 'Planet of the Apes'.....What can I say? It certainly is better than Final Fantasy, by the way have a close look and Thades father...recognize him?? <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> I Can't see his name in the credits? or is this an unannounced surprise? What a nice touch <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

If you remember the Original you will appreciate this version more but that's not to say you won't enjoy it if you haven't seen it (shame on you if you haven't seen it! <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">)

The ending has a nice twist, I would recommend this film if it interests you, but remember forget about the hype and you will enjoy these eagerly anticipated films more!!!

Bring on Lord of the Rings <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

    Cheers<br />Ace

PS - If you are curious to know who Thades father is see my Spoiler post.....That's only if you have already seen the film, don't ruin it for yourself!

I thought the "surprise appearance" was common knowledge anyway. The first I heard he was going to show up was about 6 months ago on a fan site for the original series. It's been mentioned in loads of movie mags recently too.

On another note, I thought Final Fantasy wasn't bad either.<br />And the script/story being described as "typical Japanese drivel" kinda leads me to believe that if that's how you view Japanese movies then surely you'd have been better off not seeing it in the first place? In hind sight I expect you agree. It's certainly got its roots in anime, that's for sure

Just managed to get to see Final Fantasy today.

    Verdict?

Not brilliant but worth watching. I thought the CGI was indeed awesome. I did think they did the old man better than they did Aki the heroine though (probably coz the old man had no hair!).

The plot was good if you are a fan of Japanese Manga and its imagery. Huge alien tentacles infesting the landscape were never really mainstream!

<br />That's my 3rd film this week (my week off work). Planet of the Apes tomorrow at 10.50am! <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

    <br />Reviews this week:

    Jurassic Park 3 7/10<br />Rush Hour 2 8/10<br />Final Fantasy 7/10

Blimey. I though it was fantastic - a landmark film that will have fans of 1950's pulp science fiction novels enthralled. Within its own universe, the story is excellent and the audio visual experience was stunning. This is real cinema. Can't wait for the DVD. What I can't understand is how most film reviewers thought cats and dogs was better. Now that's a truly dreadful film (but with a great trailer).
