What films have you "enjoyed by accident"?

By this I mean films which you never had any intention of watching but stumble accross them(usually when drunk) when they are being shown on tv or rent it when theres nothing else left in the shop, etc

My recent accidentally enjoyed film is "Somethings gotta give" which I saw on SKY last night,I should have known it would have been good though with Jack in it,he never dissapoints:smashin:

Life boat, an old black and white movie I caught on channel 4 once.

John carpenters prince of darkness , which again was on channel 4 not so long ago.

Dr strange love, or who I learned to stop worying and love the bomb. Saw this on the SCI-Fi channel ages ago.

All the above I stared to watch while looking for something els on the Tv at the time. All watched and enjoyed quite by accident. However, even though I enjoyed the movies, I didnt like them enough to actuall buy them on DVD.

i think i'd have to go with Love Actually. I'm not a fan of all these british romantic comedies and thought this would be just the same, but i was pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed it :)

It took me 3 attempts to watch The Thin Red Line. I fell asleep the first couple of times:boring: ! But on the third go I must admit it was one of the best war...or is it anti-war films I have seen.

A few years ago my then neighbour had just bought a new DVD player and asked me over the fence what films I had that he could borrow, in return he had Green Mile and Cruel intentions. I'd never heard of them before and reluctantly took them at part of the deal. Wow was I the lucky one, these two films are excellent and I probably wouldn't of seen them to this day if he hadn't asked me.

I accidentally stumbled onto a cracking subtitled war film called TAE GUK GI THE BROTHERHOOD OF WAR, based on two brothers forced to fight during the Korean war.

I am not usually that keen on watching subtitled films, but i found the story line so gripping with plenty of action packed scenes.

The best foreign film i have watched since DAS BOOT in the 90's.

Magnolia - Mother in Law picked it up in a bargin bin sale (£9.95  ) at the airport for me - She has no idea what i like. Just saw Tom Cruise's name on it.

I took one look at the cover and left it on the shelf to gather dust. Then while cleaning the shelf I noticed the play length was about 3 hours long and I wondered why so stuck it on one afternoon. I must say I was totally hooked right from the opening scene. :smashin:

"Breakdown" - a really effective little thriller directed by Jonathan Mostow with Kurt Russell, Kathleen Quinlan and the late, great J.T. Walsh.

A cousin, whose taste in movies isn't always great, leant me a few DVD's one weekend and this was one of them!

'In The Mouth of Madness', watched it years ago late at night when I was bored and thought it quite good. Finally got round to buying it last week from the US and I still like it :) Discover quite a few films like this.

Some of this films that you have discovered by accident:eek: what are you doing on a movie forum?:D

Crimewave - Sam Raimi effort. Caught it late on TV when I was about 16. Thought it was the funniest film ever. Lent out my aging broadcast copy at the age of 25 and never saw it again. Thank god they released the DVD. That said it is no longer the funniest film ever.

Split Second - Rutgar Hauer. Rented this years ago on VHS. Top class, it needs a DVD release.

Darkside of the moon (I think this was the title) Another rental on VHS, another great spooky scifi horror that is probably best left as good as it is in my memory.

Idle Hands - Great recentish horror comedy, in the tradition of House and Terrorvision. Borrowed blind from a mate.

The days of going to the Video store with my mates has gone so unlikely to come across such gems in the future.
