Saw this last night and it was pretty enjoyable.

Based on a true story which I hadn’t heard about before, it was well paced but I dare say there must be a decent dose of artistic licence in the script. The characters are likeable and engaging and whilst I personally don’t see this as an award winner it was a solid 140 mins of entertainment. 6/10 for me.

It's a decent movie, which could be even better with a real director.Chastain is great.

Hopefully Kevin Costner gets an Oscar nod, a truly amazing talent.

Really enjoyed that. Found it completely and immediately engrossing, and shuffling the sequence of events from past to present kept the story vibrant and eventful. Jessica Chastain really owns the role as Molly (and looks fabulous into the bargain) , and I also really enjoyed Kevin Costner. Some of their dialogue is the best in the film. My only reservations are that it drags just a hair towards the end, and while I liked Idris Elba's character I felt he was slightly outclassed by Chastain in their scenes together. I dont know how much rewatch value it might have, but I thought overall it was thoroughly entertaining and well directed. Strong 8/10

I’m not a massive fan of Elba as a rule, but he was terrific in this ! His monologue near the end, WOW.

Watched this the other night and as a keen poker player plus being a fan of Sorkin’s screenwriting I had high expectations.

The first 2/3rds lived up to those thanks to top notch performances from Chastain, Elba and Costner but (like Lucas) I found that final act dragged a tad.

I guess it’s probably a bit much to expect Sorkin to craft a movie so expertly as the likes of Fincher, Boyle, Nichols have his recent screenplays on his directorial debut though!

      7/10

I thought that was one of the moments the film went full-Hollywood, and almost took me out of the film. I think Sorkin really wanted a showcase for his trademark dialogue, but it seemed slightly unnatural somehow, and way too long- even Idris seemed exhausted by the end! I just cant imagine anyone talking like that. He was fine though don't get me wrong, I just thought the others were better. Also has he lost weight?

I also quite liked Chris O'Dowd in this (although for some reason I thought he looked like Leonard Rossiter!)

I can’t really imagine anyone talking like they do in a Sorkin film, but that’s what makes it fun isn’t it. They’re all smarter, articulate, quicker, glibber etc etc than we are.

I was completely absorbed by it from beginning to end, fantastic story in every sense
My love for Chastain grows evermore, I’m quite happy to watch her in anything (as my multiple re watches of Huntsman winter war proves)
She was great in this, its totally HER film and she completely owns it.

      8/10

Great way to start my cinema going year

Saw it earlier today, thought it was thoroughly alright.

Nothing about the film really stands out as all that impressive and I really feel like we've seen this type of film done a million times over but I admit it kept me interested enough for the run-time. Chastain was really the only highlight as she's great as usual - Elba as well. The rest of the performances were fine.

There's nothing *bad* I could point to - except that obvious green screen they used for Chastain in the skating scene because I guess health and safety wouldn't allow her to skate - so the film just hovers in that "eh, it's ok I guess" territory.

Trying to get me work buddy to go and see this with me next week.

Not seen any trailers but from what i've read here and there, this looks 100% nailed on to be right up my street.

I'm in two minds to buy this but worried about the flashing backwards and forwards in time element I just about stand it in Arrow. And I also worried about the poker elements as I know very little about it.

BTW @Casimir Harlow I only saw Miss Sloane this year and at the time thought and said on a thread, Jessica should have won an Oscar for that. I think I enjoyed more than my super hero films.

I don’t think a lack of knowledge on Texas Hold em is too mich of a handicap here. Sure it’s about Poker, and there’s a few scenes here and there but it doesn’t really go into the technicals very much at all.

      Teriffic movie.

I wouldn't worry about the poker any more than you would in Casino Royale (although that wasn't exactly poker, it was Hollywood poker). I remember your comment on Miss Sloane, Chastain is a great actress and it's awesome she's getting some juicy leading roles. I would definitely recommend checking this out (the flashbacks are effortless, and don't intrude like in Arrow, where they often feel like padding).
