We watch it (silent sh) so you don't have to.

I'm not in the least bit surprised by your review Cas. Saw this coming a mile off. The trailers even looked a mess.

Will anybody learn bigger and louder.....never works! Yeah yeah, apart from you South Park.

I've read a couple of reviews on this film and this is by far the worst.

Most have it around the 7.5 - 8.5 mark - just shows how people's views differ.

I'll still go and see it and make my own mind up, as I did enjoy the first one - but i'm a little apprehensive now!

I'd possibly watch it at some point, but no way for the price of a cinema ticket. SLJ's lisp annoyed the $%^ out of me in the 1st film. It pretty much ruined the film for me, so without that, this sequel has at least that going for it.

There is a review on the Telegraph site that states: 1 star out of 5. "Kingsman: the Golden Circle review: interminable Bond-spoofing sequel will make you long for Die Another Day". Jesus, it must be bad...

I loved the first Kingsman, but I'm actually relieved that Sky VIP screwed up with my free preview tickets - at least I can now choose to watch a decent film instead.

NOTE: Edited to remove a link to the Telegraph review. I'm sure you can find it on their site if you'd like to read it.

I'm always worried when a film does unexpectedly well at the box office, they inevitably chuck loads of money at the sequel and generally completely @?+/ it up...destroying all the charm it had in the first place:(
I'm praying for Blade Runner 2

Saw it as a double bill with Kingsman The Secret Service on Tuesday evening; KM2 was shown at Midnight.

I'd missed KM1 at the cinema, so was happy to get a chance to see it on the big screen. KM2 does flow on from KM1, it felt like a part 2 to the story. Watching them both in one sitting may have coloured my view, but I did like KM2 despite it being overly long.

Was disappointed that more was not made of the material and the *cough* actors available, but to be honest the plot is just a (cheap) vehicle to move you along to the next crazy fight/action scene - several of which were desperately trying to one-up the Church Fight from KM1.

KM2 is not going to win any awards for acting or storyline, but I found it an enjoyable watch and was glad to have seen it on the big screen.

As far as sequels go, this comfortably beats the somewhat bizarre KickAss2.

Its got 56% on rotten tomatoes, which would put the 5/10 of this review right on the money as far as the critical consensus goes.

Films can be entertaining but not "good" from a critical perspective (Transformers anyone?). Critics have to consider things like plot, pacing and acting, audiences will often overlook deficiencies in these areas if there are plenty of exciting action scenes and impressive special effects.

My screening had Elton Johns "Saturday nights" changed to "wednesday night"! Have they made different versions appropriate for days of the week?

Films can be full of exciting action scenes and impressive special effects and be completely dire, Transformers The Last Knight :p

I'll be honest I thought Kingsman was just okay so given the reviews this one is getting I will wait to watch it for free when it's available. At least then I can switch if off and watch something else.

Agreed, but it made $600 million off a $250 budget so it just goes to show some movies are critic proof.

This particular entourage managed to stir a similar reaction with Kick-ass being great, then a disappointing sequel... Really thought this might be different. Will still give it a whirl though.
      As usual Cas, great write-up.:)

A good friend of mine is an extra in the film so I've got to go and see it albeit the price of cinema ticket and the fact I've got a cinema at home galls me...
No doubt he's ended up on the cutting room floor:D

Not surprised, I thought the first one was utter garbage, shocked it even got a sequel.

Also thought this was disappointing after the brilliant original film.
It had it’s good moment and bad ones too, I just found it more of a gimmick as the film went on. The laughs were cheap, set pieces while grand weren’t engaging and intense as the first film.

Samuel L Jackson was a tough act to follow but I wasn’t particularly impressed with Julian Moore. Ultimately her motive and plans were quite underwhelming, particularly in the case of Whiskey’s character.

      3/5

more entertaining than the first imo. more replay value, i watched kingsman 4k twice then sold it.

bit cheap though, both films having villians with plans to take over the world.. i also really loved the statesman, more so than the kingsman, channing tatum was my favourite but shame he wasnt used much at all. the guy from game of thrones was also badass, shame he turned out to be a traitor.

Hmmm, watched a late showing of The Golden Circle and concur with Casimir that this merely felt like a bloated Tinseltown rehash of the original.

The action sequences were just trite CGI montages that would've been better suited to a superhero movie (even down to the Lasso of Truth) and none came close to the memorable church scene in the first.

I also found the soundtrack rather irksome and even the (purported) Dolby Atmos mix barely made any discernible use of the top notch surround system in my local Superscreen (at least it was worth paying the £2.25 uplift to have comfy seating for such a long film).

There were a few titters amongst the audience but the bawdy humour of the original lacked much impact the 2nd time around and I was quite frankly getting bored by the end.

      5/10

Off to watch this in a bit...re watched the first film last night and had forgotten how much I liked it & forgotten how much I liked many of the characters.
Going in with my expectations lowered for the sequel but hoping for a fun blast of over the top entertainment.

This could be exactly my review of the first one - I absolutely hated it, even though I am a fan of Mark Millar’s comic books, and most of the movies made from them. I found the characters unlikeable, the plot generic, and the jokes unfunny. Sounds like the sequel isn’t going to win me back then.

I saw it last night, partly on the recommendation of my son who rated it better than the first one.

      He was wrong.

Having said that I think giving it a five was harsh, I'd be comfier with a six and particularly enjoyed the Elton John role (isn't this a spoiler? It's in the review above so stuff it.) But that may be an age thing as I'm sufficiently decrepit to remember him first time round. In addition for me the film had ambitions greater than just doing something to keep the cash rolling in with a generally good cast, but there was a Samuel L Jackson void that wasn't adequately filled and I don't know if that was down to the writing or the acting, i'm inclined to say the former.

I really enjoyed the first one which I watched again a couple of weeks ago and it still holds up. This was perfectly good popcorn fodder, with some good points, but a lot of the novelty and some of the charm is missing from this one.

I saw the new Kingsman yesterday. It was kind of cheesy at some points but overall it was a good movie.

Casting Elton John in this movie was pointless and his performance was very poor - makes him out to be a miserable pensioner with a diva attitude (which is probably quite accurate!) I agree with the overall rating of the movie reviewer as it is by no means better than the 1st Kingsman movie. The storyline didn't progress anywhere compared to the 1st (which built the character Eggsy although with a small plot but that could be forgiven whereas this movie had a poor plot and undeveloped characters). For example Julianne Moore, although very talented, hardly had screen time and failed to inspire a decent villain, Elton John (as prior mention) was useless, and Channing Tatum obviously had other filming obligations but wanted a 10 minute slot anyway. The two actors that saved the movie from near death were Colin Firth (with his cold looks) and Edward Holcroft who was much more convincing as a villain than Moore (and he really shone compared to the 1st Kingsman).
It goes to show that Hollywood continues to throw money at franchise movies with forever cameos, poor plots, and even more over the top action hoping audiences approve. Yes it will make money but it sits in the normal claptrap aisles of HMV as a forgotten movie when it is released on UHD/Blu-ray over the next few months.
A positive was the Atmos audio on this. I was lucky to watch this in a brand new cinema with state of the art sound system and it was fantastic, just wish the movie was as good!
Having a real run of some bad movies recently. Hoping that Blade Runner and Flatliners is gonna be good (although already I've been told Flatliners is naff!!!) Roll on Star Wars..................

Great review as usual Cas, couldn't agree more. Loved the first one but think I laughed once watching this. Didn't enjoy it and the less said about Elton John the better... 5/10

Edit : Baywatch is comedy gold compared to this :D

I watched this in a Superscreen too and didn't think much of the Dolby Atmos soundtrack (compared to the likes of Dunkirk or Rogue One) but the setup at Hemel Cineworld is over a year old now, so maybe a tad worn out... or they used the wrong DCP, as some of the long shots appeared to be out of focus o_O
