Just home from seeing this. Great movie, we both loved it.
Frances, Sam and Woody in particular were all absolutely brilliant.
      8.5/10 from me.

Also watched this film yesterday, great review for a great film with outstanding acting. This will be hard to beat in 2018, in my view.

I caught this on opening day, and had a blast with it. A wonderfully dark and twisted tale, that is absolutely impossible to second guess - my kind of movie! By it's final scene and it's suitably mad ending, it's all just note perfect. And despite it's dark themes, it's pretty damn hilarious in parts too (sometimes uncomfortably so). There's some terrifically written characters, and as good as Frances McDormand and Woody Harrelson are, this was for me, Sam Rockwell's film.
This will definitely require a second viewing at some point, and it's one of those movies that just gets under your skin, and left me contemplating it's content long after the screening.

8.5/10 A very early frontrunner for film of 2018.

Just got back from seeing this with the wife we both thought it was great, best movie I've seen in a good while. Not that many people in the cinema screening we were at, I think this will make its money upon the DVD release rather than the cinema. A solid 8 out of 10 from me.

Thanks Cas! Can't wait to see this one. Heard so many good reports from people who've already seen it.

Just read some seriously poor "reviews", and I do use the term lightly, from what seems to be disgruntled Americans in the portrayal of Mid Western life there. Plus a complete snub for the Director in the Oscars whilst submitting the film in the Best Picture category. Go figure.
And the Independent's "review" was apalling but there always seems to be one critic who deigns to be controversial.
Thank god we have Directors such as Martin McDonagh who are brave enough to make films that truly appeal rather than the majority of the dirge that Hollywood prefers to dump on us.

Outstanding movie, and thanks for the review Cas. My movie of 2017 / 2018 awards season if you ask me.

8.5/10. Excellent watch. Brilliant casting, both funny and poignant. Recommended :smashin: points deducted for
the ending...wasn't sure if I wanted more, seemed to be turning into a bit far fetched road trip revenge movie

The criticism- right or wrong- is that the film seems to provide a redemption arc for a racist and misogynistic character (Rockwell) without addressing or punishing his crimes- as well as venerating a character who permitted it (Harrelson). I don't agree, as those things weren't the point of the movie, but I can appreciate the dissatisfaction of those who thought the trailers set up a different outcome.

      Just watched this... Solid

Anger... How it motivates us, how we deal with and process it and how we react to it is the main theme of the movie...

It's refreshing... It's refreshing to see a whole movie explore this emotion and concept rather than relegate it to just one of the passing stages of grief... Here, it is not explained away trivially...

Nearly all of the characters have to deal with the anger of others, or have anger of their own... It's interesting to see the interplay, the differences and the way some character's attitudes to angry violence is open for change, or not...

Violence, the outward, physical expression of anger is also explored as it is a recurring theme in McDonough's earlier films, In Bruge and Seven Psychopaths...

The cyclical nature of violence and it's unintended and unpridictable consequences are very much front and centre...

The calming and soothing qualities of love, as an antidote that allows for empathy and clearer judgement, are explored, but we're left wondering if it is enough...

It reminded me a little bit of A Separation and how that movie dealt with anger and seeking justice, although it was in a less incendiary enviornment...

Solid performances for the most part. McDormand, Rockwell and Harrelson were very good.

Came back from watching this a couple of hours ago. I think it's one of the last screenings at my local cinema so felt quite lucky to see it.

Thought it was great.Excellent characters, drama and snappy hilarious dialogue and striking bursts of violence. I did think that it started to outstay it's welcome a tad bit towards the end, but it finished before it had any chance to damage the film.

Sam Rockwell is just immense. I was worried there that he was playing a one dimensional character until half way into the film. And whatever has been said about Francis McDormand is well earned (though I prefer Sally Hawkins for Best Actress at the Oscars this year round). Great film and I wouldn't mind if it got the best picture nod.

Would make a interesting double feature with Death Wish (the new Eli Roth remake of the 70s classic)...
