Cheers @Casimir Harlow , wasn't expecting this to blow the doors off like Baby Driver ( fantastic fun ) but has enough going for it to deserve a watch. May not be a cinema watch but deffo UHD purchase.

Booked for Saturday afternoon, have stayed away from all the trailers.
Genuinely have very little idea what to expect, Cold War setting, 80's music, Charlize kicking butt, James mcavoy & a Porsche?
      Can't wait!

Thanks for the review Cas. :) I want to see this at the cinema but was stung by how apathetic I felt for John Wick 2. Really struggled with the latter.

I've just watched the Charlize Theron training video on YouTube. That lady is badass. It reminds me a bit of Uma Thurman for Kill Bill - although arguably Theron seems superior ability wise - and also that time in the 90s when Nic Cage suddenly reinvented himself as an action hero having not really previously shown any indication that he would go in that direction (same for Damon).

She properly sells it too. Sometimes I watch stuff like this and appreciate 'the effort' but CT nails this. Totally convincing.

Controversially (maybe) I preferred this over Baby Driver (7/10) rating this 8/10. Wifey thoroughly enjoyed it also. It's more Cold War Thriller than Mrs John Wick.

It's got a superb soundtrack and is filmed in a very 80's grungy way with cameras that make certain sections of the frame out of focus. I could imagine a triple bill of John Wick 1, Atomic Blonde and The Raid.

Totally agree the fuss about Baby Driver has gone over my head completely. Atomic Blonde on the other hand was cracking.

Why is it being compared to Baby Driver in the first place?

I didn't think about it until it was mentioned above, but its worth a mention in terms that they're both highly rated, action films that were out this summer I guess.

If the general consensus is that this is better than JW2, I'll probably go and see this.

      Trailer looked pretty good tbh.

I guess a lot of people passed on Aeon Flux many years back. So many movies featuring female action stars, and the female lead always ends up being the best thing about them, recalling Jolie in Tomb Raider, Salt, Wanted, Johansson in Marvels, Lucy, GinShell, Theron in Mad Max, Aeon Flux and this, Beckinsdale in Underworld, Van Helsing, Total Recall, Jovovich in Resident Evil, Fifth Element. One I must rewatch is The Long Kiss Good Night (Geena Davis). In fact I think the female action movies tend to hold up better in terms of rewatch value.

Her character of Atomic Blonde is closer to what the Aeon Flux character should have been. It was an appalling adaptation, which makes the GitS adaptation look like a masterpiece.

I originally thought this would be a Debbie Harry biopic when I heard the title and saw a pic of Charlize Theron in it!

Literally just watched GitS in 3D , really enjoyed it, albeit no preconceptions as I never saw the anime.

Pretty good, very violent, certain sequences reminded me of John Wick and Baby Driver, with elements of The Raid and the Bourne films thrown in. Stylish but convoluted, Theron totally convinces in the role though.

Watched this in a quarter full Superscreen earlier tonight and thought Atomic Blonde sounded superb in Dolby Atmos (as an 80s child, the music really hit the spot) with some top notch fight sequences from our ass kicking heroine.

However the trailers diminished the impact of a few of those scenes and (as Casimir says) the movie would've benefitted from a tighter edit.

      7/10.

No super screen showing for this at MK, watching it in screen 6 which I find has better picture quality anyway but no atmos. Thought about the 4DX showing but gonna keep it simple plus the fiver uplift

Saw this last night and loved it. Did anyone else see a possible nod to Tarrantino (True Romance) with a cork screw???

Well it definitely Looked cool as hell and some great tunes!
Charlize was super cool and hard as nails, she 100% sold it as a super tough assassin/spy amazing commitment from her.
Leitch is a master at action choreography and cinematography, all steely blues and deep reds, so nice to actually see the action that's happening on screen.
As a story, I was a little bored or confused, not sure yet. Will give it another watch I think because some of the finer points of the twisty-turny plot got a little lost on me (I'm not very clever :rotfl:) but i did enjoy it overall.

We ended up in Screen 3 at Hemel, which has 4K plus Dolby Atmos but apparently Empire only equipped it with a single projector when they made it an IMPACT Screen and Cineworld require dual 4K projection for official Superscreen status!

We asked why there was nothing showing in Screen 2 (the official Superscreen) and were informed that one of the projectors (which was only installed a few months ago!) wasn't working

Atomic Blonde is sharing the IMAX at Hemel with Dunkirk this week, if you fancy splashing out £4.23 to watch Charlize on giant screen for your encore ;)

Im gonna check out that cinema in a couple of weeks when I'm off, also gonna check the new Vue that's opened up in my town of Bedford.
BTW: The screen 6 presentation today of Atomic blonde was impeccable I actually prefer it to the Superscreen. Saw John wick 2, war of apes on it ands its consistently great may just book for that screen instead of the SS & save myself £2.50a pop in the process :D

Just got back from seeing it with my wife and son.

      I really enjoyed it, personally I would go higher than a 7, so a 7.5 or 8.

My son didn't like it but he was in a bad mood before we went.

The worse bit was having to explain the whole story to my wife afterwards who hadn't kept up and complaining that all the men seemed the same to her. But I don't think she had been concentrating at all with some of the questions and mistaken identities she was making.

      Cheers,

      Nigel
