has film four packed up i,m sure i heard it on liqued news, its a shame if they have, i seem to have loads of theirs.

yep film four bit the big one. f**king useless management by channel four if you ask me. the worst news the british film industry could have received. the gutless bastards didn't put up enough of a fight... charlotte gray bombed and they decided that was their lot.

From the BBC:

FilmFour has lost out in rivalry with heavyweight Hollywood studios as Channel 4 plans to close its sales and distribution arms.
After two years of financial losses the film production division is to be re-integrated into Channel 4's main television operation.

FilmFour has a history of producing successes such as Trainspotting, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Crying Game and East is East.

Recently positioning itself to compete with American studios, the company suffered a series of box office flops such as The Parole Officer and Birthday Girl.

Abandoning large international projects, outside investment will be sought to bolster the experimental, low-budget FilmFour Lab in making more cutting-edge British films.

More Gangster Films set in London then, comedies about the upper classes falling in love and gritty dramas about life on the dole in Manchester. Really cutting edge:rolleyes:

No, the new one is about an upper-class cockney geezer on the dole, who's also a gangster. Cant wait.

That sounds such a great concept I'm sold. Can I preorder it now.:D

what is the point in bankrolling these artsy-fartsy short films that they are talking about. No-one sees them apart from those watching C4 at 3am... and even then they're ****e.

there will never be a successful British film industry if we keep funding this crud and making these kinds of financial decisions. Lottery cash should be used to fund these bigger films and make them succeed in the states... thus making them financially viable. Hugh Grant has pretty much kept the Brit film industry alive for the last ten years... someone give him a hand.

Or did Divine already do that?:D :D

Yes, CDWOW have The Geezer, R2 anamophic Dolby Stereo soundtrack. It would have had DD, but most of the budget was spent on a D-reg Jag for the Geezer to drive round in, whilst he "made deals, told pork pies and kept 'is alans on just stayin' alive".

The Geezer. Great title.:D

You know someone going to think this is for real don't you.

You mean it's not?:(
My fantasy world comes crashing down...
I'll see if I get any PM's with regard to release dates:D

It's the sequel to A Right Royal Barrel of Cockney Monkeys apparently.

So how long will it be before the Film Four digital channels stop broadcasting?

Does that mean that E4 will fold as well?

I heard that only the film devision has slowed/ closed down, the channels will continue on as normal.

film four and filmfour are two different things, the TV channel is a part of Channel 4, while the film 'studio' was a seperate company. I think film four the station should be safe, although I have no idea how many subscribers it has.

Being serious again for a moment. Does make you wonder about the film four channels doesn't it. A lot of the films they show I can't see your average Sky subscriber being into. Saying that the porn channels seem to do ok so I don't see why film four can't.

E4 won't close just yet.

I think Filmfour show some of the better movies TBH. Sky moviemax isn't bad, apart from "cheesy action film" thurdays.

I could very really find a film I actually wanted to watch when I had filmfour... Moviemax is just horrible apart from the occasional gem.

Hence why we all have DVD collections I guess. The box office is a good idea, if only they'd sent DD or DTS with em. There's deffinatly enough bandwidth (if they'd cut a few crappy channels).

E4 and Film 4 shut down in June!

erm how come they are still advertising both channels on channel 4 then?

E4 starts showing Season two of Six Feet Under next week also I was watching E4 last night.

As said before Film 4 production is indeed no more. However, on digi sat at least, E4 and Film Four are definitely still going strong, with Film Four having 4 channels (Normal, +1 hour, World and Extreme). These channels are separate entities from the now defunct production company.

I've found Film Four one of the best digi sat channels for showing films properly - correct aspect ratios (2.35:1, 1.85:1 ....), start credit to end credit display and no "credit talkovers" like some other film channels

F4 is still encrypted but E4 and F4 are just blank - nothing - dead channels, did a manual tune on the TV - still there - still no programmes!

I always quite liked filmfour: sometimes its beneficial to sit down and watch a film that you wouldn't ordinarily select if left to your own devices...

With regard to the production wing : yes I totally agree they right royally screwed things up. The so called "British film Industry" is hamstrung by its nepotism and closed group mindset: far too many people in the "british film industry" are more interested in living the lifestyle and hanging out in the groucho club and telling all their mates how they work in the film industry (vacuous in the extreme). Personally I'm dubious as to whether there actually is something called "the british film industry"

Anyway : "Buffalo Soldiers" is getting some pretty good reviews which is a shame as its now floating in distribution limbo after filmfour fell over : typical the last film they manage to complete turns out to be one of the better ones.
