I saw SWAT at the pics a week ago - thought it was utterly stupid but fun. However I noticed that it did have at least one sound substitution for swearing (possibly for the 12 cert - i dont know if its cut in the US)

Anyone else notice this (Its not listed as altered on the BBFC site) WAS it cut for USA or just UK?

I also noticed in M:I2 that the neck break on the plane at the begining of the movie (both R1 and R2) had no "crack" sound - its not that im blood thirsty for violence but sometimes the alterations really take you out of the move when you notice them.

Does anyone else know of other films altered in this way? i.e. modified for swearing/violent sounds (Robin Hood, Die Hard 2 & 3 and the 2 middle Pearce Brosnan bond films spring to mind).

Anyone know of a complete list of film cuts/substitutions?

There's a couple scenes in Galaxy Quest that leap to mind. One close-up of Sigourney saying "forget that" clearly shows that's not what the original line was.

I did notice a line change in the Special Edition release of Return of the Jedi, when Han is trying to reach Lando when they are at the Sarlac pit, when Han gets the gun and Lando says "I thought you were blind", Han said "its alright I can see much better" but in the original he said "its ok, trust me"

I have no idea why they changed it but thats a change I noticed.

Yeah - i think George Lucas loves to change things for the sake of changing them - like the artist chipping away at his masterpeace until he's left with a pile of rubble on the floor

This has nothing to do with the BBFC as the line (actually "screw that") was also in the US version. I like the way this was done and it makes me laugh every time.

M.I. 2 is very well known for being badly cut by the studio so they could get a PG 13. John woo delivered an R rated cut and they hired Stuart Baird to come in and edit it down to a PG 13.

Did anyone ever see Beverley Hills Cop when they tried to show it pre-watershed once. I can't remember what they replaced it with but I swear there was a 2 minute piece at the start in the changing room that was a constant

"Get the frog out of here"

Love that film and yet still think that version was the funniest I ever saw.

I remember when ITV used to follow the Gangsta Rap way of editing "that's Bulltihs" - sounds like bullfish

    Other favourites:

"I'm a real cop, this is a real badge and this is a real fffiring gun"
"Give me the keys you fairy Godmother"

I'm fairly sure I remember someone in a televised version of "Repo Man" saying "Flip you!" But I may have dreamt that one. :)

Hackers has one that was done to get it down to a 12. Angelina clearly says "I hope you don't **** like you type". Can't remember what they changed it to but it was very badly done.

When Heartbreak Ridge was shown on ITV they substituted Maggot Farmer
Someone mentioned Beverley Hills Cop - that made me laugh when someone called him a foul-mouthed cop, yet on ITV he didn't utter a single swear word :D

I think it's in Robocop 1, there's one of the bad guys shooting him shouting "Freak You! Freak You!!" I could not stop laughing at how badly it was dubbed. Oh and of course Yippee Kay Aye Keemo Sabbai from Die Hard.

Can anyone remember the sketch, I think it was in the "Fast Show" that took the "puss" out of this kinf of thing. Was one o fthe funniest ever with the complete range of:

    "Did you flick my wife"
"Course I didn't flick your wife you cake sucker"

    and the obligatory

    "Mother flicker".

Is one that I would love to see again if I could only find it.

    Re. Repo Man:

All of the ridiculous expletive-substitutions are supposed to be there: Alex Cox put them in as a bit of fun, mildly satirising the tv versions of films.

I often find these euphemisms much funnier than the real lines they're replacing: there's only so many macho-delivered f**ks I can take without despairing at the whole purulent human race and it's lack of originality.

    regards,
    anephric
