Thought we best have a thread for this, the sad death of James Hornor opened up a lot of discussion on it. So rather than continue I thought this a better place for it.

BTW that use of horns by Jerry Goldsmith here two examples of it.

I was about to ask a few weeks ago if anyone knew of any good soundtrack discussion forums so thanks for starting this.
I don't have a lot of Goldsmith scores but the one's I do have and adore are "Rudy" and "Powder"
Although I liked the film "Chinatown" it's soundtrack is just a little too Jazzy for me.

What age was I, 5 or 6? I was in a darkened cinema, excited and Superman: The Movie started. The music below is the extraordinary music that John Williams composed as Kal-El's ship heads for earth. Just gorgeous.

That's a brilliant main theme followed by this excellent piece.

I love the main theme but for a change I put in the music of Kal-El traveling to earth, as it hints at themes brilliantly. Much like this incredible John Williams piece from Raiders of the Lost Ark..Indy raises the staff in the map room, and the sun rises..

I was listening to the Batman and Superman radio program in my post above and they played Lex Luthor Lair theme and thought it it sounds a lot like somthing out of Star Wars (droids theme?????).

I've always been a huge film music fan and Superman started it - opening title music is beautiful. Love John Williams.
Ennio Morricone, Thomas Newman, James Horner and Hans Zimmer also big favourites.
