I have a rather old computer (750Mhz) but it does the job for me in terms of email and internet etc.

However - i am considering getting an MP3 player (not sure what yet) but i am concerned that the file transfer rate would be to slow to upload tracks from the computer

My computer is still the original USB (1) not USB 2.0. Can anyone advise what the rate of transfer is likely to be from the computer to the MP3 player? Would it be ages? and is USB2 much faster? :lease:

    A few pointers:

    -USB 2 is faster

-Operating system can also have an effect, as some software runs better on different OS.

-Some of the transfer apps are RAM savvy, so makes sure you've got enough.

-Disc Space! Have you got enough?

    Thanks

    Running Win XP Pro SP1.

Got 20gig & 60gig with about 60 gig free space (already got about 650MP3's on disk)

    384MB ram currently.

I know from downloading images from digi camera that it takes about 2 mins to do about 50 x 3MB photo's

    Thanks for the pointers! :smashin:
I know the computer is old (about 5 years old) but it does a job and (touch wood) never had any problems bar 1 virus that crashed the H/D

I know you can pick up USB 2.0 network cards - not sure if this would work with my motherboard or not?

As long as you have a spare PCI slot on your motherboard a USB2.0 card will fit straight in. Should be able to pick one up for about a tenner from Scan/Aria or similar.

Mp3 and photo transfers will be about Ten times faster then.
