Surprised no-one has mentioned this yet!
I saw it on Wednesday night and watched the repeat again on Sunday.
Two full sized remote controlled cars were driven at 60mph into a head-on collision - the two cars were a 10 year old BMW 520i and a similar agaed Volvo 740 saloon.

    WHAT A MESS!

I'm sure a few people with think twice about that dodgy overtaking maneouvere on a country road having seen the carnage left after the impact.

I saw it last night and it made me think I though there would have been less damage from such makes.

Mind you it is not only you overtaking it could be someone in the other direction overtaking! I know one thing I would get out of there road now if possible.

No but it was on TV and I think it is worthy of debate - that's what a forum is about....the thread will soon die if nobody think's it is worthwhile - and the moderators are quick to let you know if you have done soemthing to break the forum rules.......

I agree. 5th gear is a good programme. Any prog without that Clarkson bloke in it has got to be good though IMO. (Made a career in talking out of his a**e.)

I watched this & I was surprised to see the Volvo come worse off than the BMW.

Mind you they did they say what condition they were in, in the first place? But I doubt that it would have made much diference.

I wonder car will look the better out of the two? :D

I don't know, but watching them both get up to full speed and then crash at 35mph wouldn't be very exciting :D

The Seiko Smart car will no doubt look better after the crash.

Both cars were at least ten years old weren't they?
Cars these days would stand up to a crash a lot better.

Apparently NOT - this was a question Tiff Needell posed to one of the Government Official that turned up to watch the collision. He said legally the crash tests done by the Safety People on new cars only have to conform to 35-40mph.
Airbags would not have stopped the crush injuries that would have killed outright or asphyxiated the people inside the cars.

Soft tissue deceleration is the real silent killer.

Having cut quite a few people out of RTA's there is not a lot left of most vehicles after a head on smash.

    Top tip...:lesson:

Never overtake when there is a lorry coming the other way:smashin:

    Anyway drive nicely folks...

    ...and always wear a seatbelt:D

The crash looked huge at 120 mph, and no-one would survive such an impact in virtually any vehicle (unless there was a considerable weight difference between the vehicles, and even then it would be doubtful).

You know what's really shocking? Most people wouldn't survive an accident at half this speed (i.e two cars crashing head-on at 30mph each, giving a closing speed of 60) in the majority of modern cars. There's just too much energy involved.
