I'm really interested in this. Any more info? Links, extras, picture quality, and where I can buy? Thanks, M.J.

The UK fifth Element has a decent picture, but the disc suffers from high distortion / jitter outside the DVD specs. The US disc is reference quality re picture. Are we sure this German disc will be upto the US quality with the added bonus of DTS and other bits?

Or are we palmed off with the second rate picture quality with DTS?

The US disc was sourced from Bessons own approved master.

The UK release (and possibly the new German one) are not from the US master as Besson rufuses access to it because he didn't want extras put on the disc (he says that it spoils the magic of the movie)

Have to agree, despite being one of the first DVD releases, the R1 is one of the best, if not the best transfer I have seen to date. I would forsake any extras for a transfer of this quality every time.

I was refering to the R2 copy, which is stunning in itself.

I didn't know about the R1 copy quality.

Is the R1 NTSC copy still going to be better than a R2 PAL copy on a British tv with NTSC decoding?

I have to admit that I WAS very interested in this German release featuring DTS - that is until I read this piece of news this morning on DVDFile:

"Never let it be said that Canada is completely useless. Yesterday Canadian retailer C&L spilled the beans early that Columbia TriStar Home Video will be releasing a handful of titles under a new banner entitled SuperBit DVD. These titles, reported to "set the highest standard for audio and video available on DVD," will drop special features in favor of turning over every available bit of disc space to picture and sound. These new releases are also notable as the first non-Steven Spielberg Columbia titles to include DTS-encoded soundtracks. The five titles, which are tentatively set for release in October, are Air Force One, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Desperado, The Fifth Element and Johnny Mnemonic."

Bring those bad boys on is what I say.... ;) (well, not Johnny Mnemonic though)
