FIFA 22 Review & Comments

On principal alone, EA can go fudge themselves for continuing this abhorrent trend of implementing microtransactions into everything they can.

None of their games utilising this shitty system should be 'recommended'. Just my take anyway...

I agree you can’t recommend a game with EAs give me all your money mechanics they have put in the game so secretively.

EA have put all the dirty tricks into this game now designed to make you spend money.

If you do play ultimate team and after a game think you need to go buy those Fifa points with money to open packs to buy a player, think what has triggered that impulse and guaranteed it’s an EA dirty trick that’s made you think that.

I don’t buy the fixed game any more stopped at 2019 after playing since 2010, I can see through it all now and can play better games than this

Interestingly EA have kept their heads down since the British parliament started investigating them. I mean it takes a government to tackle them and they are still doing it

I buy this to only play Pro clubs with my best mate , and we are finding it very weird this season... passing all over the place, points system bugged to hell , hopefully they will sort it with a patch

Forget the microtransactions and focus more on the fact that they repackage the game year in year out and sell for full price.

On switch its worse - they have a disclaimer saying 'this is the same game with no meaningful changes beyond player and kit data' and yet sell it for £40. The game is the same as the OG Switch 2019 FIFA - just player and kit data updated. For £40. Its shameful.

MTX depending on what they are annoy me less generally and frankly FUT doesn't interest me in the slightest but does seem pretty scummy. But there we are.....

The next gen version is absolutely awful, it’s been clear for years at as long as FUT has micro transactions then the rest of the game is forgotten about.

I’m actually enjoying it as it is. Not played for the past 4 years or so and after the awful pes rebranding I thought I’d hive it a ho and I really enjoy it. Yes I’ve spent stupid money on it but it will let a year so I’m happy.

Played the 10 hour free trial and it was ok. If I get a football game it will be FIFA because eFootball is an abomination. Will be my first FIFA in a very long time.

On micro transactions... What if people stopped wasting money on FUT?

Will never happen. YouTube doesn’t help either as there’s loads of videos on there with people packing 2 legend cards.

People don’t realise most of the time ea give them the points and let them pack the best players.

(Ea ain’t daft)

I've had to delete it, hopefully next year they make an effort!

I only bought this game as i recently got a ps5 and not played or owned a fifa games since fifa 04 so fingers crossed it has improved a bit since then.

If there is one site I would read it in the review it would be this av site. Yes audio is largely excellent but it’s more than that it’s the first fifa game with Dolby Atmos!! It’s sounds (to my ears) much better on my ht setup than fifa21.

You’ll enjoy it while your squad is winning it comes around quickly where you start losing a lot then what do you do? Sell your players and pay money to buy new ones. Rinse and repeat throughout the year. The only thing your losing is money then.
That’s all going to the EA plan.
Question, when a goal is scored why do you see the card of the player who scored with all the stats for that card when kicking off again? (This was a recent addition to the game)

The answer why they show the person that scored against you, is because when that shiny pink and blue one to watch card scores 3 goals against you, the game wants to make it clear that it was that card that scored against you so when you leave the game, you want to go buy that player

Its called subliminal messaging and FIFA ultimate team is full of subliminal messages now, its actually crazy

So you want to buy that player, the only issue is that player costs 500,000 coins so how are you going to buy him? Well you have a spare £30 and you can buy fifa points to open packs and you might be lucky, you might even get Ronaldo you think. So you spend the money, open the packs, and there's nothing in it, standard gold cards you might sell for 4,000 coins. Ah well you weren't lucky then, never mind

So you still remember getting hammered the day before and it was that shiny pink and blue one to watch that did it, so you still look at your coins, and nope you only have 100,000 and you need 500,000

So you go ahead and buy another £30 pounds of fifa points to open packs. Open packs and nothing in it again, but your £60 spent now and nothing for it

So you spend another £30, there might be a happy hour on that EA flash in front of you or special offer on packs, all subliminal so you go again. This time your luck is in some what, as you get a De-Bruyne who might sell for 100,000.

So your happy there, you've spent £90 and from it you tell your self you got De-Bruyne so it wasn't all bad??? Or was it, you've spent £90 and got absolutely nowhere

The only issue is that shiny pink and blue card needs a shiny green in midfield, and a shiny blue team of the week player (stupid EA bringing out stupid types of colours and upgrades every single week to keep you spending on the latest and greatest cards), so you need 700,000

And when you finally get this team, it might have cost you say £300 over the weeks, you go play and you might win your next 10 games, one after the other and you think wow, i'm the greatest Fifa player in the world.

So you turn if off, have a rest for a few days, then start playing again, and your stumbling, you win 3 and lose 3. Well not so smooth now. You look at your team, yes it was the same winning team a few days ago, but its not destroying all the opponents

You can play some games, you go up 2 to 1, and you know your going to lose, you have a feeling and then you lose 3 to 2, the chap suddenly knocked 4 passes together from midfield to his striker who shot and your goalie tried to save it and should have done but didn't. You didn't have time even to move any of your players, he just scored out of know where to win the game?

So you accept this status quo, your not going to win every game with this team. But your thinking how can I make the team better. You need a Prime Icon now, a Gullit in midfield and a Messi

And so it goes on, your spending for those coins and all the time the whole game is just playing with you (pun). Subliminal messages hitting you everywhere

When I played in 2015 and 2016, there were forum posts about momentum, scripting and match fixing but EA always denied it. So I kept playing thinking yes its just bad luck what happens in the game. Then in 2019 there were 2 you tube articles came out, that were made public and proved what was happening

An EA set of so called scientists, were tasked with how to make as much money out of people when playing the game. The article was an internal EA article that was leaked and is now available on the internet. They discovered they had hit a gold mine with the game, and wanted to suck out of it as much money as possible and they have managed to do that

A second article caught on secret camera had the EA chairman describing the loot box concept and said when players are in distress, they will then resort to spending money in the belief that the stress would stop, and EA could make loads of money out of it. Again subliminal messages

And Fifa 22 is the result now, as many subliminal messages as possible to hit you with, increase the rate of upgrades on cards weekly, increase the rate of expiry on your players (the time when your player becomes useless), make you go on losing streaks deliberately, allow really bad players to win occasionally

I can only warn people off the game, until the buying Fifa points with cash is removed

It looks like an innocent game of football and the vast majority of people see it like that, because of the clever way EA has implemented the dirty tricks, but it isn't

Entirely agree though I'd say I've played loads of FIFA games without ever touching FUT or spending any additional money.

Its a bit like betting - there is an exploitative industry but they need willing participants.

Don't play the modes and you won't end up spending the money. And my issue is that the modes themselves are popular in part because they have introduced this sort of mechanic that people enjoy. The gambling gene is high across our population.

Not that I excuse EA in any way shape or form, but they are to some extent providing what people want.

That could be a generalisation to say it’s what people want? I don’t want it, the whole country of Belgium and the Netherlands don’t want it. The British parliament won’t allow it soon. And there is 1000’s of people that get sucked into it without knowing which is the whole point

It’s made the mail online today, well done EA

EA won't care. you can get on fine without spending money on fifa ultimate team. I didnt buy fifa points and have a 86 rated squad in division 4 currently 40 wins 3 loses. havent spent a penny and just bought the xbox series x and s version. Just because people spend on fifa points won win them games and its not to say they will get anyone out of those packs either. Watching those streamers on twitch is no good to be honest.

I have to laugh at a few on here got just under 2m coins in first week of release and a ridiculous squad asking people where they can improve the squad haha

If people didn't want it they wouldn't play it and EA wouldn't make money. There are many ways to play FIFA you don't need to play FUT.

I'm not in anyway saying these practices shouldn't be clamped down on by law and regulation. They absolutely should but nobody forces people to play them yet they do.

I don't really see why an adult would but I know loads who do and share their teams on twitter etc...its a popular mechanic in gaming and the world isn't it.

Fifa is popular because people like football. And because of its popularity EA are sucking people into it but have all the dirty tricks in the book in the game now and people are not realising. There are sensible people probably like a lot of people on this forum and then there are the masses of other people out there who are not aware or suddenly see their spending go up and then make excuses for it. Then there is the masses of kids playing, don’t know the number could be millions, and they should not be exposed to the dirty tricks EA are doing

The games doesn’t actually have an age rating yet, it’s suitable for people over the age of 4 at the moment and then if it did as it should, kids will still get hold of it as you can’t enforce it

Don't disagree. All I'm saying is there are many modes in FIFA - you can enjoy it without the FUT stuff. They added it because its mechanics are popular and over time they've done what publishers do and make them ever more addictive and monetised.

But my point is - people LIKE that stuff. Its hugely popular. So the mechanics of loot/gambling are inherently popular across the population - and that means ripe for exploitation.

If not then why doesn't everyone just ignore FUT?

They might be but I don’t want it on any of my games that rest on my PS5 or Xbox Series X.

A game is a game not a gambling casino, designed by a professional set of EA so called scientists to get you hooked

EA invented it, people didn’t actually know what it is, they made lots of money, people realise what it is now, people despise EA now and want it to stop

But that's not true is it? FIFA 22 has just sold more than FIFA 21. People love it. They want it. I don't at all disagree that it should be regulated. But the point is that its more popular than ever because the population loves this stuff.

EA didn't invent addictive practices that plays on people's love of chance, gambling and addiction. That's not an EA invention. They just implemented that stuff because they know people love it.

The problem needs tackling in society as its not just a gaming issue and blaming EA is missing the point. If people know what it is and want it to stop they certainly aren't showing signs of that. If people did the game wouldn't sell.

So less blaming of EA - but absolutely regulation of these practices, but more tackling what are clearly deep lying societal problems.
