The old black box version of FIFA 07 is now backwardly compatible, shame it didn't happen sooner because the gameplay is vastly superior to the 360 version and for those who like completeness, you get ALL of the teams, players as opposed to the handful of players you get in the 360 version.

    Works through VGA too.

Fantastic, I held off getting it because I wasn't sure about the VGA aspect but this is great news.

Quick question though, in FIFA 07 on the XBOX you use BLACK for chip shot and WHITE for that little close control this, is this now mapped to any other buttons, if so, which ones?

    Thanks

I'd imagine they'll be mapped to the RT/LT shoulder buttons. Will confirm once I've had a go tonight.

Hopefully this'll mean we can all play online too. Great news as it's infinitely more playable than the 360 footy games. No need to buy the UEFA game now as this has hundreds of teams and a decent career mode :)

Good work Microsoft, took long enough but at least they've done it!

I tried to play it, and found it to be a jerky load of crap. I'm using component @ 720p set to 60Hz. Not sure if that makes a lot of difference but it looked really really bad.

I found it to play smoothly through VGA, however some of the cut scenes are blurred, the game itself played fine.

Don't forget you are playing a last gen game, while the gameplay isn't upto much on the 360, you may have got used to the better graphics.

Yeah, I must admit that it seemed very jerky online - possibly due to my broadband connection?

Other than that, the game played very smoothly in-game. The only issues I noticed were with the cut scenes which now make my eyes go funny!

Still to be able to play with that depth of teams though, why didn't they include them in the 360 version? Here's hoping they'll be around for FIFA 08!

Also hoping that in FIFA 08 they add some tricks and sort the shooting out, oh and the fact that you get sent off if you breathe on someone.

Yeah, agreed. Must confess that almost all of my goals in the Champions League game are the "finesse shots". Found it almost impossible to score outside the box. Anyone else found the same?

(Should probably be on the UEFA thread!)

Hopefully FIFA 08 will be the business, but FIFA 07 on the original Xbox is still one of the best games that will now work on the 360. Along with Evo 6 I'd argue...

I finally got this and it is great. But I can't play online because I am connected via VGA. When I go to 'Xbox Live' it tries to update then says that my VGA doesn't support PAL-50 and it goes back to the dashboard. Does anyone know a way around this so I can play online with VGA?

Blimey, haven't a clue to be honest mate. My techie knowledge is lacking slightly!

For what it's worth, the online game seemed really jerky though, and the three games I tried to play have all disconnected after about 30 seconds - admittedly, this could've been my opponent's refusal to play against me with a [email protected] connection.

Has anyone else had the same? Just so I can isolate my connection as being the problem..

Had the same issue and you need to do the following

    1. Connect up a component cable (or even the stock composite cable/scart)
    2. From standard dashboard goto system display settings
    3. Change Refresh from PAL-50 to PAL-60 and save settings
    4. Connect VGA backup and it should take the new PAL-60 settings

Worked a treat on my Toshiba LCD, NBA 2k6 would not work via VGA on PAL-50 but works just fine with VGA and PAL-60

Nice guide, I wonder if there's any scope for M$ doing something about the replay visuals, wouldn't have thought so now that the game itself works, but it is a bit of a pain having to squint at the screen every time I concede a goal!

I was going to get this, but I think I wait until Fifa 08.

No release date for Fifa 08 though is there? Might not even be until the turn of the year? Not sure mate, but you can get the XB1 version of FIFA 07 for about £15 pretty easily. Well worth it in my book.
