noticed that all my video files where playing back with "snow" or noise on them, this past week. (all file types, all apps, except *.mov)
I'd just got ffdshow working with TT (even on Pal disks, by venturing into my registry).
Didn't really notice much difference and so when I worked out that ffdshow was my most recent significant change I uninstalled it and low and behold video playback was fine again.
Why's that then? Is there a way round it?

Try unchecking the 'user overlay' box on the output section. I think this has been known to cause problems.

Also, what settings are you using?

    I didn't explain well.
I thought that when installed FFdshow would only have an impact when called upon to post process by another app (like TheaterTek).

What happened to me was other apps like Winamp and mediaplayer had their playback effected by FFdshow's installation. I couldn't find a process running in the background that suggested FFdshow was actually doing anything when I had the problems....

I think if you select the box on the output, is it something like 'user overlay control' or something (at work so can't look) it affects the overlay for everything. TT doesn't required this box to be checked.
