Great shots - better than any I ever took - mind you I only have an A40. Like the Greek amphitheatre shot with Etna in the background. Did you get the chance to go to Etna? - I have walked up it a couple of times - a great experience

    Cheers Parmenion62 :)

We didn't go up Etna this trip... which just means we have en excuse to go back for a longer stay sometime! We did a tour round most of it bar the Catania side to have a look at the local villages etc.

It sounds like a gruelling hike, not like the baby mountains in Scotland. The summit seemed to get cloudy most afternoons while we were there - at least it was when viewed from Taormina. Maybe spring is a better time to go up, what do you reckon? Definitely intend to go back to Taormina sometime, can't recommend it enough.

Some great shots there: 1,4 & 5 in particular.

The hill looks pretty damn steep in shot 7!

Cheers! Those steps were very steep, I almost had to stop for a fag half way up! ;) - kidding.
Some kids were playing kickabout with a football at the top... I was dying to catch a shot of them losing the ball and chasing after it.. but it didn't happen - they are obviously used to it!

Some very nice pics there. Standing out from the bunch for me are the beach shot #5 which just makes me want to get into that lovely clear warm water, and #6 which is a very good and interesting wide angle shot.

Looks like a lovely holiday you lucky xxx.

Probably not to everyone's taste but here's an HDR of no 13 which is from 3 bracketted RAW exposures. Unfortunately I only have the trial version on Photomatix :( so apologies for the watermarks.
Clickable as usual - the larger version is worth a look IMO.

Thanks for all the comments so far :)

It is a great place - I get to go there once every 3 years - there is a scientific conference there - the best conference venue I have been to.

We catch the bus from Taormina to Etna and it drops you off at the tourist place part way up - still quite a walk to the summit and the air is a bit rarified at the top - but it is an unmissable experience. There used to be a cable car but I think an erruption destroyed it. There is a landrover ride part the way up but it was quite expensive - mind you last time I walked up the price was becomig more reasonable the further I walked!

We usually go towards the end of Sept but it is still very warm then - usually over 30 degrees. Spring would probably be a better option but be careful the summit does get quite a covering of snow - it is a ski resort.

I will try to post some photos but dont expect the type of quality shots that you have posted!

How lucky are you getting to go for work so often! We drove around the north side from Taormina, and could see the roads leading up to the official hiking trails, but I reckoned it must still be about 10km hike to the top from there, so would take a whole day to go up and back. Next time though! I'd like to see some of your shots if you can post them.

Oh yeah I forgot about the skiing season affecting it! Doh! There's an idea though... skiiing on Etna! That would be cool!

Here's another HDR... this time it's a variation of photo no 2 from this thread, but from 6 bracketted RAW exposures processed in Photomatrix.
