Seems my iPhone (2G, 2.1, Jailbroken/Unlocked) has stopped fetching mail when
I noticed this a couple days ago and thought it odd that when I wake up and look at the phone I usually have a few mails, but during the day I don't get any new mail notifications...
So I ran a few tests and sent myself some mail. Seems even tho I have my gmail (IMAP) account set to fetch every 15mins, it isn't doing it - I have to check manually by opening Mail.
Then I noticed it will fetch them if the phone is using an active data connection - IE, I'm using Cydia, Safari, etc
Then I noticed it will fetch, even when asleep, so long as it's connected to a power source - either USB to computer or on a mains charger
So it looks like it isn't fetching when asleep (on battery) or when awake (unless active data connection is present, such as Safari)
Looking on Google seems many others are getting the same problem, but not everyone. Whilst most report it to be a problem with 2.1, some have same problem with 2.0, some on jailbroken phones, some on factory phones, it varies somewhat....
Anything I can do to patch it? WHilst I like that it's improved the battery life, missing probably the most important feature, for me, that was a huge factor in buying the phone is very annoying! I could manually fetch emails on my Nokia
It definitely used to do it as I've remembered hearing the little "beep" it makes when it gets new mail, then sliding the lock open to see a 1 on the Mail app, but it's just not doing it anymore! I've deleted the email account and set it up again, reset the fetch settings, tried it with push on an off, hard rebooted the phone, all sorts! Just no joy
