    Hello fellow film buffs!

I confess that I have a fondness for martial arts and action films that feature women kicking arse, mainly because they move differently to men (to my eye), much more gracefully.

I've got a few films in my collection:

    Salt (Angelina Jolie)
    Tomb Raider 1 & 2 (Angie again)
    Colombiana (Zoe Saldana)

Have seen Haywire (Gina Carano) and she was the best thing in a rather average film, so didn't bother buying that.

Am planning to get Atomic Blonde when it drops in price. Anything else worth checking out?

    Thanks!

    Mad Max Fury Road
Resident Evil movies - 1 and 2 are ok, everything else in the series is more of the same

    Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
    House of Flying Daggers
Aeon Flux - not seen this one
Ultraviolet - not seen, supposed to be terrible
Tomorrow Never Dies - or any Michelle Yeoh action movie
Dead Or Alive (well, I like it)

On a thread like this I feel obliged to mention this one if you want to see how not to do a female action movie, check out Skyscraper on youtube starring Anna Nicole Smith doing her "best" to be a female John McClane.

Skyscraper (1996) trailer - Anna Nicole Smith

Skyscraper (1996) - Full Movie (NSFW)

there's also outtakes that show what the poor old production team were up against trying to make it even watchable. She couldn't even manage to repeat the lines that were being read to her

    Anna Nicole Smith "Skyscraper"...

I find it to be so bad it's very nearly awesome. But it's not really, that's just me.

I'd give Atomic Blonde a recommendation . Some of the action scenes are incredible given that they appear to be done in one extended take.

Atomic Blonde is one of my favourite action films of the year so definitely recommend that.

The obvious ones are Kill Bill 1&2 for some ferocious girl-combat and 1 on 1 violence.

There are also some superb female actions scenes in The Matrix (Trinity), Crouching Tiger, Marvel's Black Widow from those films, Sin City (Miho), and DCEU's Wonder Woman.

X-Men 2 is also terrific with both Mystique and Lady Deathstrike.

Also here's a superb little bitch-fight from Total Recall. Probably the first time I've properly seen two women try to really hurt each other. 0:50 - 1:33 (spoilers)

If you like martial arts films you might like The Heroic Trio with Michelle Yeoh, Maggie Cheung and Anita Mui.

    the-heroic-trio.jpg

It's a bonkers mix of martial arts and superhero action. I love it.

Another vote for Azumi. There was some brilliant action in that. I couldn't get away with that tv version of Nikita I'm afraid. I found it very tedious. The original film was excellent and I even liked the American remake Point Of No Return/The Assassin.

There were two Nikita TV shows. The second one at least had Maggie Q going for it.

I thought the first Azumi film was ace, too. Not so much the second, but the first was very good. I was convinced she was a highly skilled fighter, although that's remarkably not actually the case in real life.

There's some impressive female martial arts skills on display in Blade Of The Immortal aswell, mostly with weapons

Although more of an ensemble piece, how about Felicity Jones in Rogue One?

If you're going to include TV shows then there's the incalculably wonderful Xena: Warrior Princess and later her lesser sister, Buffy.

I don't know how well it would stand up today but I thought this was very good when it was first released.

Azumi already mentioned, that's one of my faves.

'So Close' I seem to remember was quite good and ticks the boxes you're after:

A conflict of interest between two high-kicking assassin sisters is complicated as they're pursued by the criminals who hired them and an equally high-kicking female cop.

There’s loads if you watch HK movies. There’s a whole (what was dubbed as) Battlin’ Babes genre in the HK movies heyday of 80s and early to late 90s.

    Okay, thanks guys!

    I bought:

    My Wife Is A Gangster - £2.99
    The Heroic Trio - £4.99
    Naked Weapon (2 Disc) - £2.92
    Chocolate - £3.09
    Azumi - £1.89
    So Close £2.19

Total = £18.09, or around £3 each. This will be perfect for the upcoming "festive" season and its crap telly. Can't wait!

Oh, and for anyone else checking out this Thread - I've seen Aeon Flux and it is one of those films you kind of enjoy whilst watching and then instantly forget all about afterwards. Same goes for Elektra.

Still intending to get Charlie's Angels 1 & 2 on Blu.

And thank you everyone for your suggestions. I looked up every single one on Amazon/IMDB to get a synopsis and a sense of whether I'd like it or not.

Another vote for Cynthia Rothrock, Check out China 0 Brien 1 and 2. Such a shame this talented martial artist Chloe Bruce Chloé Bruce - IMDb does not get to make her own films, She was a stunt double in many great films like Star Wars and the new blade runner.
